dook 19th Apr 2019 20:47

I'm now wondering if it's ex-mil.

dook 19th Apr 2019 21:21

The trouble is that it's been re-registered.

Dora-9 20th Apr 2019 01:24

Munich-Riem? OH if correct.

dash7fan 20th Apr 2019 07:10

Dora 9 is correct. München Riem March 1965. Seafury TT Mk 20, D CACE ex VZ302, Sn. ES3613, reregistered G BCOV

JENKINS 20th Apr 2019 07:12

Perhaps it is Kaufbeuren, been there once.

Self loading bear 20th Apr 2019 10:21

As the OH has been called again,
May I suggest this different approach?
Of course I left some bits out.
I have more conventional clues available.

dook 20th Apr 2019 10:41

I have no idea what this post is supposed to mean.

Self loading bear 20th Apr 2019 10:58

Can you identify the airport by a related logo?

dook 20th Apr 2019 10:59

Oh - thank you.

Self loading bear 20th Apr 2019 11:00

Can you identify the airport by a related logo?
But for you the more conventional clue
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....10b1e9df4.jpeg

dook 20th Apr 2019 11:19

I can certainly identify the shelters as American, because I've used one in Germany.

Self loading bear 20th Apr 2019 11:21

The shelters are still there but repurposed

sycamore 20th Apr 2019 11:30

Bitburg AB ,Germany........OH if correct

dook 20th Apr 2019 11:30

I don't think military air bases had logos, so is it a civilian airport nearby ?

Self loading bear 20th Apr 2019 11:42

Sycamore takes the lead with Bitburg
I told you I left a bit out of the logo.

OH called again

dook 20th Apr 2019 11:44

I had already found "Bitte ein Bit" but still unable to find the logo.

edit: now I have.

Driving rightside of the road:
European?

JENKINS 20th Apr 2019 12:39

An early guess at Headcorn?

dook 20th Apr 2019 12:40

Europe yes but not Headcorn.

Self loading bear 20th Apr 2019 12:49

European country with 2 letter prefix.
Not so many!

dook 20th Apr 2019 12:55

I assume you mean the aircraft at the bottom.

Self loading bear 20th Apr 2019 13:24

Yes 2 of them
looks like they are “at home” on those spots

dook 20th Apr 2019 13:47

They don't live here.

dook 20th Apr 2019 14:51

ERROR. I looked at the wrong reference in my portfolio.

Australia.

Challenge is thus withdrawn and OPEN HOUSE again.

India Four Two 20th Apr 2019 22:59

Here's another floating aerodrome:

Usns Card
Used as transport carrier during Vietnam war and last aircraft carrier sunk by enemy forces.

edit: according reddit website this photo was taken from Golden gate bridge.
so now we can assign a fixed point to a mobile aerodrome.

OH if correct

Checklist Charlie 21st Apr 2019 00:46

Shame "dook" withdrew his photo. Methinks it was Berwick complete with an Airtourer and either a Mustang or a Firefly

USNS Card transporting F-102As. As SLB says, the only carrier sunk by enemy action after WWII - admittedly in only 6 m of water, so it was reflected and repaired.

It was sunk at the Saigon wharf shown below, by limpet mines attached by a VC saboteur:
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....7859e108a0.jpg
The picture shows the Card's sister-ship, USNS Core, at the wharf at the foot of Tự Do* (now Đồng Khởi) street in central Saigon. The Majestic Hotel is in the background.

Here's the Card after the attack, listing to starboard:
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....a6edbdb44b.jpg

A 12' wide hole was blown in the hull. Five civilian crew members were killed in the attack.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_USNS_Card

SLB has declared Open House.

* Tự Do street's original name was Rue Catinat during French colonial times. It features prominently in The Quiet American. Tự Do, which means freedom or liberty in Vietnamese, was renamed Đồng Khởi after the fall of Saigon in 1975. This lead to a joke among Saigonese that when the NVA arrived, they took away freedom and liberty!

dook 21st Apr 2019 08:22

Checklist Charlie,

You were correct. Having made a cockup I had to withdraw it to be honest.

dook 21st Apr 2019 08:47

Happy Easter for those who celebrate it.

The blue arrow looks familiar to previous challenges
same region or do you draw in the arrow yourselve?

sycamore 21st Apr 2019 16:53

Are these aircraft `awaiting delivery`/airtest/etc,at or nearby somewhere like Burtonwood.....
Look like a mixture of T6,Mustang,P40....??

dook 21st Apr 2019 17:21

I did not draw the arrow.

They are not awaiting delivery or airtest and we're not in the UK.

I feel they are bombers but might be wrong.

edit: American bombers

dook 21st Apr 2019 17:44

We are in northern Europe.

Dora-9 21st Apr 2019 19:13

Methinks it was Berwick complete with an Airtourer and either a Mustang or a Firefly
More likely an L40 Meta Sokol...

Terry Dactil 22nd Apr 2019 00:57

Shame "dook" withdrew his photo. Methinks it was Berwick complete with an Airtourer and either a Mustang or a Firefly
Gotta be a Firefly with wings that fold like that.

lauriebe 22nd Apr 2019 01:25

Could it be what was then Meeks Field (now Keflavik Airport), Iceland.

OH if correct.

dook 22nd Apr 2019 08:39

We are in Europe but not Iceland.

These bombers are interred, so surely someone can now find it.

JENKINS 22nd Apr 2019 08:55

Dubendorf? Had looked recently at the internment, but I was convinced the image was gliders, sans Invasion stripes.
