Maybe Papua New Guinea - still trying.....

India Four Two 23rd Apr 2019 16:29

New Caledonia?

nvubu 23rd Apr 2019 17:45

dook has the right Island

dook 23rd Apr 2019 19:11

Part of the Dobodura complex maybe.

nvubu 23rd Apr 2019 19:33

Not part of Dobodura

dook 23rd Apr 2019 19:48

Looks fairly long, suggesting a bomber strip.
.
There are a couple around the little islands up in the north west.

I can't find any images but is Aitape close ?

nvubu 23rd Apr 2019 20:16

Not near Aitape, and no bombers that I can see.

dook 23rd Apr 2019 20:29

Abels Field ?

JENKINS 23rd Apr 2019 20:37

Quite an embarrassment of choice, mine being Pongani.

nvubu 23rd Apr 2019 21:19

Neither Abels Field or Pongani.

dook 24th Apr 2019 08:42

How about Tsili Tsili or Lae ?

nvubu 24th Apr 2019 09:35

Neither of those either.

If it helps, it is by the seaside :ok:

sycamore 24th Apr 2019 11:42

North or South facing coast..?
Still visible on GE.../

nvubu 24th Apr 2019 11:59

Very good questions. The coast at this location is running approx. N/S and the runway is visible.

Ripton 24th Apr 2019 12:56

Buki, just south of Gagidu?
If so, OH.

dook 24th Apr 2019 13:39

I thought it was Finschhafen.

Ripton 24th Apr 2019 14:10

Same place but you've got the name right.

nvubu 24th Apr 2019 14:27

Finschhafen Airfield it is, so dook has the correct name, but Ripton has the correct location and was first by 45 minutes and as a newbie to the thread is declared the winner - Open House it is. Hope you have some challenges for the future.

Interesting airfield - clicky

At the war's end, millions of dollars of equipment both new and used was bulldozed into a huge holes in the area and abandoned

dook 24th Apr 2019 14:36

Maybe Ripton can rustle something up.

Ripton 24th Apr 2019 15:40

At the moment I don't have anything that would be easily identifiable from a google image search so I'll leave this to dook.

dook 24th Apr 2019 15:57

There's nothing about images from nvubu that are easily identifiable from a Google image search !!

I have six ready to go.

dook 24th Apr 2019 16:47

Here's one of them.

nvubu 24th Apr 2019 17:06

And your challenge - Germany?

dook 24th Apr 2019 17:36

Nein mein freund.

lauriebe 25th Apr 2019 08:52

US possibly?

dook 25th Apr 2019 09:13

Not the USA but you are closer than Germany.

lauriebe 25th Apr 2019 09:27

After posting the question above, I went north of the border.

Think I have located your challenge at Fingal, Ontario. Only seems to be the outline of the old runway layout visible now with no buildings.

Wiki indicates it is now a wildlife management area.

OH if correct.

dook 25th Apr 2019 09:33

Excellent shooting lauriebe - Fingal it is.

It had three runways in a triangular pattern.

OH has been called.

jensdad 25th Apr 2019 21:52

Thank you dook and lauriebe.

Only 12 years old, but the photo's historic already. Makes me feel a tad nostalgic as well.

dook 26th Apr 2019 09:31

Morning jensdad.

Is that an ATR 72 ?

dook 26th Apr 2019 13:35

Canary Islands ?

dook 26th Apr 2019 14:22

Maybe La Palma ?

jensdad 26th Apr 2019 14:56

Oops, apologies for not getting back sooner. It is an ATR72, and it is indeed the Canary Islands. Oh, and it is La Palma!
Historic and nostalgic because the nice old terminal building, with Canarian style architecture and palm trees next to the apron, has sadly been replaced with the standard large concrete and steel box. Progress maybe, but why do they need to make it so ugly? :(

OK, I'll stop complaining...
dook has the control :)

dook 26th Apr 2019 17:14

Thanks jensdad.

Something a little older.

JENKINS 26th Apr 2019 17:37

Evans Head, New South Wales?

dook 26th Apr 2019 18:34

Indeed Evans Head, and done with no clues. Has it been done before ?

Your deal.

JENKINS 26th Apr 2019 19:20

Thanks. I had initially thought of another country which operated the Battle, and then this pitched up. Not my own choice of steed.

Now this. Still apparently in some form of use, potatoes included. A variety of wars, some particularly singular use, allies, enemies, friends perhaps. There appear to have been hardened aircraft shelters from long ago.

dook 27th Apr 2019 12:12

What is the geographical orientation please ?

JENKINS 27th Apr 2019 12:15

North at the top, and these days the North has significance.
