Maybe Papua New Guinea - still trying.....
New Caledonia? |
Part of the Dobodura complex maybe.
Not part of Dobodura
Looks fairly long, suggesting a bomber strip.
. There are a couple around the little islands up in the north west. I can't find any images but is Aitape close ? |
Not near Aitape, and no bombers that I can see.

Abels Field ?
Quite an embarrassment of choice, mine being Pongani.
Neither Abels Field or Pongani.
How about Tsili Tsili or Lae ?
Neither of those either.
If it helps, it is by the seaside :ok: https://of6wzq.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
North or South facing coast..?
Still visible on GE.../ |
Very good questions. The coast at this location is running approx. N/S and the runway is visible.
Buki, just south of Gagidu?
If so, OH. |
I thought it was Finschhafen.
Same place but you've got the name right.
Finschhafen Airfield it is, so dook has the correct name, but Ripton has the correct location and was first by 45 minutes and as a newbie to the thread is declared the winner - Open House it is. Hope you have some challenges for the future.
Interesting airfield - clicky At the war's end, millions of dollars of equipment both new and used was bulldozed into a huge holes in the area and abandoned |
Maybe Ripton can rustle something up.
At the moment I don't have anything that would be easily identifiable from a google image search so I'll leave this to dook.
There's nothing about images from nvubu that are easily identifiable from a Google image search !!
I have six ready to go. |

And your challenge - Germany?
Nein mein freund.
US possibly?
Not the USA but you are closer than Germany.
After posting the question above, I went north of the border.
Think I have located your challenge at Fingal, Ontario. Only seems to be the outline of the old runway layout visible now with no buildings. Wiki indicates it is now a wildlife management area. OH if correct. |
Excellent shooting lauriebe - Fingal it is.
It had three runways in a triangular pattern. OH has been called. |
Thank you dook and lauriebe.
Only 12 years old, but the photo's historic already. Makes me feel a tad nostalgic as well. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....7fd714d468.jpg |
Morning jensdad.
Is that an ATR 72 ? |
Canary Islands ?
Maybe La Palma ?
Oops, apologies for not getting back sooner. It is an ATR72, and it is indeed the Canary Islands. Oh, and it is La Palma!
Historic and nostalgic because the nice old terminal building, with Canarian style architecture and palm trees next to the apron, has sadly been replaced with the standard large concrete and steel box. Progress maybe, but why do they need to make it so ugly? :( https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....7e9c8db9d8.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....68cead4fea.jpg OK, I'll stop complaining... dook has the control :) |
Evans Head, New South Wales?
Indeed Evans Head, and done with no clues. Has it been done before ?
Your deal. |
Thanks. I had initially thought of another country which operated the Battle, and then this pitched up. Not my own choice of steed.
Now this. Still apparently in some form of use, potatoes included. A variety of wars, some particularly singular use, allies, enemies, friends perhaps. There appear to have been hardened aircraft shelters from long ago. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1ba3d93a91.jpg |
What is the geographical orientation please ?
North at the top, and these days the North has significance.
