Evening Graeme

Homebuilt/kitplane?
Yes, but I have seen it listed as a LSA. First flight was 1984, relaunched under a new name in 1986.

Lightning Mate 4th Jun 2012 09:24

Morning Ken.

Is it single-seat ?

skytrain10 4th Jun 2012 10:18

Yes, single seat David:ok:

Noyade 4th Jun 2012 10:37

Hi Ken. First thought I had when saw it was a miniature version of the Siai-Marchetti SM 1019A. Now I know it's not, but is it the same layout? The cabin has a distinct 'drop' at the back meeting the fuselage line?

Noyade 4th Jun 2012 10:44

Or a scaled down Bird Dog?

The BAC (Brutsche Aircraft Corporation) Freedom 28?

Lightning Mate 4th Jun 2012 11:12

Did this not cause much discussion here last October ?

skytrain10 4th Jun 2012 11:28

Siai-Marchetti SM 1019A
There is a similarity in shape, but certainly not size. No connection Graeme

The BAC (Brutsche Aircraft Corporation) Freedom 28?
Not that, but similar in shape.

Or a scaled down Bird Dog?
Again similar in shape, but no connection.
The original concept of this aircraft was a reduced scale version of a popular light aircraft, but the obvious difference is the drop down behind the wing. So imagine this with a straight line from behind the wing to the base of the tail and you'll get a better idea.....:)

Lightning Mate 4th Jun 2012 11:33

Ah......back to my bumper list then.

I suspect I've been doing the same as Graeme. :uhoh:

Capella single-seat ?

...er no - the tail's wrong.

skytrain10 4th Jun 2012 11:46

I do find it odd that this aircraft does not seem to be in Aerofiles. Or at least it's not listed under the original name it was produced under, nor the current name. There is howeverplenty of reference on the web, as well as photo's. Unclear as to whether the aircraft remains available, but from articles I have seen it probably is...it doesn't help that the manufacturer doesn't have a website!

skytrain10 4th Jun 2012 11:51

Capella single-seat ?
No, but a very similar aircraft. I think this design predates the Capella though.

Lightning Mate 4th Jun 2012 12:26

Are the wings foldable/removable ?

Oi Graeme - help!!!

skytrain10 4th Jun 2012 12:44

Are the wings foldable/removable ?
Not that I can see.

This aircraft design won an award at a major aviation show in Florida in 1983. The designer is also known for a very retro looking single and two seat open cockpit monoplane, which first appeared in the 1986.

skytrain10 4th Jun 2012 12:58

I'm sure it would help if you can work out what aircraft this was originally based on. They share the same model number:ok:

Lightning Mate 4th Jun 2012 13:42

Is that number a 3 ?

Wozzat Sun 'n Fun ?

skytrain10 4th Jun 2012 14:02

Is that number a 3 ?
Yes, prefixed by a letter.

Wozzat Sun 'n Fun ?
Yep

Lightning Mate 4th Jun 2012 14:06

Well this morning I found the Hipps J3 Kitten - but it isn't that.

Lightning Mate 4th Jun 2012 14:59

Sometimes you win.....sometimes you lose.

I'll pop back later to see how it's going.

skytrain10 4th Jun 2012 18:56

Well this morning I found the Hipps J3 Kitten - but it isn't that.
You should have looked further. It is the Hipps J3 Kitten - originally launched as the Anglin J3 Kitten, which was based on a scaled down Piper J3C-65 Cub:ok:

LM has control

Lightning Mate 5th Jun 2012 07:30

Morning/evening all.

I didn't come back last night because I convinced myself it wasn't the Kitten. The fin looked wrong.

skytrain10 5th Jun 2012 08:09

Morning David. Other than the fin shape (:)), yours reminds me of a stretched Cosmic Wind. I'm sure it's not but I assume this is an American racer?
