Head north
I dunno mate. Swedish?

skytrain10 3rd Jun 2012 08:57

I dunno mate. Swedish?
No, but the next clue, head east, would give it away. Finland:ok:

Noyade 3rd Jun 2012 09:03

Finland
OK. Thanks.

1980's.
Can you narrow that down a bit mate? :)
I have nothing in the later par of the decade. Early eighties?

skytrain10 3rd Jun 2012 09:14

Can you narrow that down a bit mate?
I'll do my school teacher bit! Pay attention Noyade...what did I say earlier "Head north, 1983" :)

Noyade 3rd Jun 2012 09:22

"Head north, 1983"
Sorry sir. :uhoh:

No luck though. My books seem obsessed with either the PIK-21 Super Sytky or the Tervamaki JT-5, which is an autogyro.

Many built, or did you already tell me? :)

Lightning Mate 3rd Jun 2012 09:26

All this shaking hands and letter stuff....I can trump it all.

How about The Queens' Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air. :)

Noyade 3rd Jun 2012 09:28

Yeah, but did you "touch" her....:)

skytrain10 3rd Jun 2012 09:28

Many built, or did you already tell me?
Just the one mate. It won an award for best homebuild of its year in Finland. So you just need to look for that famous book of "Finnish Aviation Awards of the Eighties" and you'll find it:)

skytrain10 3rd Jun 2012 09:33

The Queens' Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air
Well that beats most of us I guess....good one David:ok:

Graeme....I know someone who has the The Queens' Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air.:)

Lightning Mate 3rd Jun 2012 09:35

Is the challenge extant and in a museum?

skytrain10 3rd Jun 2012 09:38

Is the challenge extant and in a museum?
Still current of the Finnish register with a current CofA, so would assume still flying.

Lightning Mate 3rd Jun 2012 09:54

Is it classified as an ULAC ?

Got the whole register in front of me..............

skytrain10 3rd Jun 2012 10:05

Is it classified as an ULAC ?
No

Got the whole register in front of me..............
Blimey....assuming you are using the official one it falls in to the Airplanes category, which includes homebuilds.

Lightning Mate 3rd Jun 2012 10:10

Well, it's got an awful lot of pages!

skytrain10 3rd Jun 2012 10:30

Well, it's got an awful lot of pages!
Ah, but all the homebuilds and experimental aircraft in Group L start with the same letter. Back end of the alphabet!

Noyade 3rd Jun 2012 11:24

Heading off shortly Ken. Any chance of a photo/line drawing of the long-snout?

Making any progress David?

MReyn24050 3rd Jun 2012 11:34

skytrain10 3rd Jun 2012 11:35

Thought this would have gone by now, particularly as as far as I can see, there was only one such homebuild registered that year!

Here's the photo

OH-XIA, Iimu JK 1, I believe
.
Edit, our post's crossed Mel. Yes, it is the Finnish 1983 award winning homebuild, the Kyllonen JK-1 Iimu:ok:

Mel has control

MReyn24050 3rd Jun 2012 11:38

Got there just before you posted. Will have to be Open House I am afraid. Great challenge.

Noyade 3rd Jun 2012 11:49

Nicely done Mel. :ok:

Did it have a Sub-Type number/designation? :)

Small but easy....
