Think you're right:ok:

evansb 14th Sep 2007 13:53

Mel is correct. Well done.:D It is the huge, now closed, U.S. Naval base in Subic Bay, Phillippines. You have control.

AKA Naval Air Station Cubi Point

Mel's Challenge

Sorry 621andy I have removed my last post as the photograph was reported to be from a 1957 copy of Flight and was identified as a DC-7C climbing away from Philadelphia after two practice approaches had been made there for the benefit of the trainee crews on board. After further checking I do not think it was either of Phildelphia's airports North Eastern or the International one. I will post another challenge shortly.

Halifax, NS (YHZ).

If I'm right, the floor's open!

Dan Winterland 15th Sep 2007 06:15

You are right, I'm certain. I remember a happy couple hours trying to get de-iced on the ramp in the background. And just to confirm it, I found the same picture on the airport's own web site!

Apologies for the slight break from protocol by posting a new challenge without confirmation from Mel, I'm taking up Jerry's offer of the open house.

This is an airfield (honest!), a photo taken by my dad in the late 50's. Not as obscure as it seems, as soon as someone realizes what the item is it will fall quickly, as it could only be one of a handful of airfieds.

It has to be on one of the 27(ish) V Bomber dispersal airfields.

It doesn't look like RAE Bedford

Or is it a QRA caravan - Waddington?

Mel's Challenge

Apologies for the delay as Dan Winterland says Jerry Coe you were correct it was Halifax, NS (YHZ).
Mel

Dan Winterland 15th Sep 2007 14:00

That was quick! It is indeed a V bomber Q caravan. Bear in mind that only the main bases had caravans that were pernamently manned.

Dan Winterland 15th Sep 2007 14:48

Got to go to bed now (GMT+8) and I'm on standby at 6.

If anyone by chance should happen to mention the one V Bomber base that was in Norfolk, it's your turn.
