Your all skirting around; getting closer. Picture was taken in 1955.

norwich 16th Apr 2008 19:26

Riyadh SA. ????
Second guess, with that number of civil aircraft in 1955, it could well be Jeddah ??????

KeMac 16th Apr 2008 20:06

Dhahran, Saudi

Dendmar 16th Apr 2008 20:57

Mr Grubby is spot on. The runway was pure sand in those days! My father took the picture in 1955 when he was Station Fire Officer. I was a mere lad and had a great time there. Over to you.

Mr_Grubby 17th Apr 2008 16:38

I lived in Bahrain '66 - '68 and traveled around the Gulf.

Kuwait was a little more developed then than in the photo but I had a feeling !!

Anyway gents, open house.

Clint.

Well done Mr Grubby :ok:

Note to self - Use Imageshack next time ;)

Mr_Grubby 17th Apr 2008 20:24

Hey !!

Two on the trot. But another confession to make.
I lived for 4 years in Dundonald when I was working at Gailes Radar '78 - '82. My house is clearly visible in the pic. But all that time I never new there was an old airfield across the road.

There was an old army camp down the road at Barrasie that had some sort of landing strip.

Anyway, open house guys.

Clint.
