hmmm - I always worried about the cost /weight/benefit of adding a gunner - especially when he was equipped with what looks like a pop-gun 0.303

1940's?

Yes, a good challenge that got the brain cells working. The giveaway was the circular window below the turret.
Have a go at this one....

Correct. Bede XBD-2.
May be not as stylish as later stuff but technically more interesting. Boundary layer control research aircraft with 160,000 holes drilled in wing and controls. Preserved at Manitowoc Airport, Wisconsin.

You have control

You know, when I watched that dreadful movie about Alan Turing I marvelled at the skills they found in the population at large.
This thread has a similar effect.
I know the main protagonists here have aviation brains larger then space itself but...to recognise a couple of air intakes as esoteric as that...

Chapeau, guys, both of you!

However Noyade has me slayed in a mere four hours...

I'm a bit fuzzy over the 24hr rule so whoever takes over/confesses/admits/declaims according to form please do so at the appropriate time.

Note to self....grrfff. Must try harder!

I'm sure you meant to say that Noyade had responded very quickly but you aren't available until evening today to comment

Those cooling vents look awfully small to me................
