Can you provide an alternative hint to 'the US Navy was a player' ?
as the US navy in those days was a player in many places?

Could it be either Sao Lulz or Macelo in Brazil ?

Sorry, nobody has named the aerodrome yet.

descol, the US Army/US Navy owned this property for decades but do not now.

Airship in the previous hint was the USS Los Angeles.

Spot on Mr_Grubby!

The US Army's former France Field which morphed into NAS Coco Solo. The birthplace of US Senator John McCain. Now closed and mostly overrun by a seaport/industial park.

Located near Colon, Panama it was likely the origin of the saying "This isn't the worlds arsehole but you can see it from here".

You have the controls!

Note: Apologies to Ridge Runner but after consulting with an impartial observer it appeared that your guess of 'Panama' seemed a bit too much like like 'bracketing' with a lucky near hit. Had I directly responded to that it would have given the game away without really answering the challenge. Further in my defense, it was actually located in what was known as the US 'Canal Zone' Territory back then, not Panama per se. Splitting hairs I know but I felt it best for the contest.

OK but the style of the houses - maybe French? Also there are European-style haystacks in the background.

The small biplane appears to have quite a crowd around it. A special event maybe? Identifying it would help but this era is not my forte.

Still thinking... RR

I'm no expert on haystacks, or perhaps not on aircraft either! I immediately thought the large twin biplane was a Vimy or similar so Vickers, which lead to Joyce Green. No idea of the smaller aircraft or the buses (maybe Dartford Motor Transport?)
