AAO, you were two minutes too early!

It's Cam Ranh airport, the new civil airport for Nha Trang. Between the tower and the mountains is Cam Ranh Bay, one of the best deep water harbours in SE Asia, home at various times to the Russian Navy (twice) and the US Navy.

I took the photo a week ago on my first trip there.

Here is a photo from 1966 when it was a lot busier:



The new tower is on the "land-side" of the C130 ramp in the foreground.

You got it AAO -it's Birdsville - 1976 - we were amongst the early arrivals for the annual races - later that day there were 200 light aircraft on the strip - I belive it's a much larger event these days - anyone out there with current pictures ?
