Hi Mechta,
I think it might be the Airspeed Tern ?? Test flown by joint designer Nevil Shute to publicise the Airspeed company.

Hi SincoTC,
Yes, its the Airspeed Tern. Well done
Good try RegDep.
Did you spot the 'round the bend' clue? (one of Nevil Shute's novels)
I read that Nevil Shute learned to glide a short time before the first flight so he could test fly it. Rather him than me!

Thanks Mechta,
That was a helpful clue!
Sorry Reg, when I saw your Challenge on WC, I thought that I didn't stand a chance of finding this one before you did!
I'm afraid it'll have to be another Open House as I can't post at the moment.

Mechta,
The Nevil Shute clue was wasted on me. I had noticed the name Norway when I had had looked at Tern, but dismissed it for whatever obscure reason (cannot remember - maybe active amnesia ). Had not read the book and, in fact, did not know that his family name was Norway. To tell the truth, have not even read the On the Beach. Found the idea too real .
Sinco,
I am no glider person, in the WC I am just out of my depth (if there is any).
Good night, Gentlemen.

Good night, Gentlemen.
I liked all the Nevil Shute books apart from 'On the Beach' it was way too depressing.
Re the Norway name, My mother went to Girl Guides on Hayling Island with a couple of 'Norway' girls. It was only many years later that she discovered they had been Nevil Shute's daughters.

Good Morning, G'evening and Guten Tag gentlemen,
Is it a Bleriot Bl.290 ?
The general configuration looks about right, but it seems distorted spanwise!

Hansa-Brandenburg W.20
Due to the need to be stored and launched from a submarine the W.20 was a small single-seat biplane flying boat that was designed to be assembled and dismantled quickly.
