Silhouette challenge
Time soon for bed - busy day ahead - so:
One day, Bill the duck hunter was out on the border of New South
Wales and Victoria shooting ducks. He was having a really good
day, he'd already bagged 6 or 7 ducks and a park ranger came up
to him.
"Did you realise that its not duck season in Victoria anymore
mate." said the ranger.
"I shot these ducks in New South Wales!" Bill replied swiftly.
The ranger then said, "Thats irrelivant if the ducks are from
Victoria, throw me one of the ducks, I'm an expert and I'll be
able to tell you if it's from Victoria, or New South Wales."
Bill, thinking that the Ranger was a bit of a goose, obliged and
threw him the first duck. The ranger then proceeded to part the
ducks tail feathers, and then jammed his index finger straight
up the ducks arse. He then sniffed his finger and called back,
"That one is ok, its from New South Wales, send me the second
one."
Bill laughed and sent him the second duck out of
interest. The ranger did the same routine again, and when he
sniffed his finger, he called back,
"This duck is from Victoria, I'm going to have to report you."
"You're kidding aren't you mate" said Bill "You can't possibly
tell from that!"
"Trust me, I'm an expert" calls the ranger "Now, what was your
name?"
"Bill Smith"
"And where are you from Bill?"
"Richmond"
"Richmond Victoria, or Richmond New South Wales?"
Bill then proceeded to un-do his belt, drop his daks, and
called back
"You're the f##### expert, you tell me!"
Good night.

Well, Graeme just shot down my first-time-ever own post in two minutes. Good (and nice) things in life are often over too fast.
Now he went to change Pampers, and hopefully will post sometime soon.

Thanks RD - just been going through the day's posts - there are even some challenges in amongst the chat!
I think I would have got it - but not in 2 minutes - 2 hours maybe! Its so frustrating when that happens: there have been many occassions when I've spent 20 mins or so preparing a silhouette only for it to last a couple of minutes - very frustrating!
Too true - and its a shame considering most things slow up as you grow older
I'm sat here in a hotel room with free wifi, so I'm going to find some new challenges. Hopefully Graeme will have changed the Pampers and posted something before I call it a night.

A Poor man's Guide to Silhouette Creation.
Ok here we go. I'll try to be concise.
Lately I'm having some success utilising two things...
A white background
And "Gamma"...
Gamma correction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If you don't have it, download IrfanView...IT'S BLOODY BRILLIANT!...
IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide
Scan an image, in BLACK AND WHITE MODE, not in colour. Alternatively, scan it in colour and send/save it to IrfanView and convert it to "Grayscale" (Click "Image" and then click "Convert to Grayscale") It should then look like this...
I have an old (8 years) Lexmark scanner and it has an editing suite. In there is an "Image Adjust" folder and in that, an area you find things like brightness, contrast and "GAMMA". I'm sure all scanners would have this somewhere.
Again, alternatively, it's in IrfanView. Click "Image" and then "Color Corrections" (It's an American programme). By adjusting gamma to the left, slowly, it will start to blacken and look like this...
Any area not black can be easily retouched with a "paintbrush". Again, best in Irfanview...click "Edit" and then "Show Paint Dialog". The beauty of this is that the paintbrush, line or eraser can be adjusted from the size of a pinhead to a clenched fist, something I can't do with the Lexmark edit suite.
It's not perfect and I'm having no luck with photographs. I've also found that profiles taken from the internet don't work as well as scanning due to scale I suspect...
See here, a "sawtooth" line appears on the image...
Gotta say that IrfanView is BRILLIANT at sizing the image to the exact pixel size the user wants.
That'll do for now. There's lots more but this e-mail is getting to big.
Please, please let me know how you get on, good or bad.
Cheers.
Graeme
