So very close Mel. So close in fact that I will hand the controls over to you.
It is in fact the Bernard 20 Single-seat fighter. There was only a single prototype, which flew in spring 1929, and it was refused by the engineering services, in spite of its performances, its speed on landing having been considered to be too high (110 km/h). The power unit was a Hispano-Suiza 12JB of 400 hp.

Next Challenge
Thanks S'land, I was going for the Bernard V-4 next which was a great deal closer to your challenge than the V-1 I found out. Great challenge. Here is the next one.

Bri.
I should race for the cab for if you go for a trifecta on Tony it could possibly be a costly wager as Tony is not the nag.

A stab in the dark: the tail section looks a litttle geodesic. Any connection to Sir Barnes Wallis maybe?

Tu.114.
I am not aware of any connection with Sir Barnes Wallis. This aircraft was not British. There were a couple of clues given in the last post by evansb and in my reply to that post.

S'land. You are very close however this aircraft was a single seater built for a specific air race. The Caproni PS.1 was an Italian sportsplane, designed and built specifically to compete in Challenge 1934, the European touring plane championships. It was also known as Pallavicino PS-1. It was a four-seater low-wing monoplane. The challenge aircraft also came from the Caproni stable.

Mel's Challenge
Tu.114 has it.
It is the C.A.B. PL-3 I-TALY which as you say was to have participated in the MacRobertson Race but it failed to start. I stated that this aircraft was a single seater however I may have been incorrect in that it may have been a two seater. Can anyone confirm?
You have control.
