Sorry, not an Arado, nor a Messerschmitt.

Time for a clue: The model is a post-war aircraft that reached prototype stage.

The nationality is correct, though - isn't it? It looks German to me...

The LWD Junak Cadet perhaps?

Close, Mel, but not the LWD Junak Cadet. The mystery ship failed as a prototype, and her successor also failed, but for a different reason.

As Mel was close, how about the Zuch-2?

The Zuch-2 is close too, but the aircraft was not made in eastern Europe, nor Russia.

The more I look at the model, the more I think it is a wind-tunnel model and was not used primarily for recognition purposes.

Here is a clue: The mystery ship is NOT the aeroplane pictured below, but it is quite similar to the Zuch-2, and the Junak Cadet, as per Mel's post. Note the tail/aft/ends are different from the the mystery ship. Is that a coil spring mounted between the crankcase and the prop?

Close again Mel, but notice the tail-plane (horizontal stabiliser) is located near mid-rudder (vertical stabiliser) on the mystery ship.
