Hi Mechta...thanks for that. It certainly looks like the 790. Do you have anything to post? If so I'm sure others won't mind if I hand control over to you.....I say that as I've got to go out soon for a few hours. Otherwise it would have to be Open House.
Anyway we'll wait to hear from WK.

Hi skytrain10. Br-790 it is

I propose to ask the site manager to develop software which delays skytrain10`s answer from appearing for lets say an hour.

David, most silhouettes (surely the French ones) I provided came from the French periodical "Aviation Magazine International" of the 1950s

I looked in first thing to see if the Brummer had gone after a quiet afternoon/evening and sure enough it had!

I did wonder about dropping another clue before I left, but there was so little additional info left that wouldn't have given the game away, and as there were no names I recognised on the active list, I left it as it was.

Thanks for minding the store again on the Brummer LM and another well done to Ken

Looked in again at lunchtime, but skytrain and Mechta had just given the correct answer to WK's challenge, well done chaps!

Done for the day now and it looks like I might as well hit the road as WK has just responded, but there's nobody bar poor RegDep about, don't despair mate Edited to say I posted and came back to see you've now got LM for company too, but I can still hear the wail of the stall warning, so I'm off now, seeya tomorrow guys!!

Good evening gentlemen.

skytrain said at 1327:

I say that as I've got to go out soon for a few hours. Otherwise it would have to be Open House.
It's now 1835, so a few hours is now five. C'mon mate - get sumfin' up.

Evening LM,

skytrain may also think that Mectha has taken up his offer of control, but he too is offline now anyway. Based on recent experience, Ken is probably dining right now and often won't re-appear for an hour or two. I would say, that if he was aware of the situation, he'd call an OH.

Cheers mate!

Thanks mate.

However, we must not be presumpuous - it's skytrains' call.

Ken is probably dining right now
So am I - fillet of Aberden Angus, wild mushrooms and pepper-cream sauce, and an Oz Merlot - Graeme would not approve since it's out of a bottle and not a cardboard box.

Evening....I came back a couple hours ago, but at the time we were still waiting for WK.

Sinco's knowledge of my habits is worryingly correct! Yes I'm just doing dinner now, so lets make it Open House.

Looks like something the Russians were pasting up in the 50s - early 60s before they went on to variable-geometry. The gear looks like Yakovlev but I cannot put my finger on it.

As RegDep is the only one to dip his toe in so far, I think some clues are in order.

Its not a Yakovlev and not even a Russki, although the centre section does have a bit of MiG 25 about it.

It didn't get past the drawing stage, but was from a well established manufacturer.

If so OPEN HOUSE, I'm turning in.

Well done RegDep

The Martin XB68, (or Model 316) it is:

Martin XB-68
One bomber that received the B-number but not the production go-ahead was the Martin XB-68.
This mid-1950's tactical bomber has been previously described as a three-engined delta winged aircraft
similar in design to the Convair B-58 "Hustler" (see Lloyd Jones, “U.S. Bombers, 1928 to 1980’s,” Aero
Publishers, Inc., 1980). However, information has been found that shows a completely different design.
This confusion is likely due to different designs being studied to perform the same role.
The XB-68 described here, Martin Model 316, was a twin-engine design of relatively
conventional layout, looking as much like a contemporary fighter as a bomber (however, the resemblance
to the stillborn Boeing B-59 is remarkable). A slender fuselage was flanked by the long engine nacelles,
each equipped with inlets that would have looked at home on the MiG 25 or the F-15. Relatively low aspect
ratio, moderately swept wings were mid-mounted to the nacelles. A swept T-tail provided stability at the
rear, mounted above the radar-controlled tail gun.
Landing gear was similar to the Boeing B-47 in having two sets of main gear in tandem, with
outriggers in wingtip pods. The fuselage was packed with fuel tanks, even though the range was rather
limited (it is unknown if in-flight refueling was considered). Cruise to the target was to be subsonic and at
high altitude, but the bomb run dash was to be conducted at supersonic speed and at even higher altitude.
The bombs were to be stored in a rotary bomb bay (used on the Martin B-57 Canberra). Two deceleration
parachutes were included for braking.
A crew of two were used on this aircraft: a pilot-radio operator and a navigator-bombardierdefense
systems operator. The tandem cockpit was pressurized and cooled by a refrigeration unit while at
high Mach numbers.
'Open House' as Reg Dep requested.

Interesting.

I always thought it was a tri-jet delta bomber project. Maybe this drawing was too provisional for 1974?

Maybe I'm provisional! LOL

Noyade,

I think Martin must have had several ideas for the B-68 project......
