I've seen this before somewhere. Am I correct in thinking there was also a radial-engined version?

Not that I am aware of.

To me it looks like it could be from one of the slavic countries, but then what do I know, I've been wrong consistently recently!

David you were getting there, it is as teusje says the Caproni Ca331b also known by the designation Ca 331 C.N. the night fighter version.
