Mmm....not sure you deserve a clue now!
Ok, the designer of this aircraft worked for a well known US aircraft manufacturer prior to setting up his own company (after which this aircraft is named).

My silence is just a sign of my bafflement, which remains unbroken.
It looks like Ken Arnold designed it, right after he spotted his UFO (does anyone else think he might have seen Hortens being tested in the US?)
I like the 220 twinjets, maybe they might have sold a few if McDonnell had done it themselves? Lockheed went the other way, I remember, turning the jetstar from a twin to a four holer like a mini VC10

Morning all
Not a Chance-Vought, but there is a close connection in that the designer worked with an associated manufacturer and was involved in the design of numerous products of that company from the late 20's to the early 40's, many of which are well known.
The designer was not an American.

Excellent challenge Ken...ya bastard!
It looks like a six-gun fighter design of late WW2, so I looked at early Sikorsky "choppers" of the same period but Wiki acknowledges only Igor as the designer?
Was Zimmerman a Russian? It was designed in the United States?

G'day LM. Lets ask him!
One last question before this ugly man gets his beauty sleep, is there any relationship between the above and the XF5U-1?
The prosecution rests your honour.

No connection with the XF5U that I can see.
Zimmerman was not involved in the challenge aircraft.
The designer is however a Russian.
The aircraft was designed in the US, but never built. I have seen comments about a mock-up but have not seen any photo's that support it.
Don't bother looking at Hiller or Bell. This guy's name is most closely associated with Sikorsky, but remember the challenge aircraft is NOT a Sikorsky product.
HD, the designer had no connection with the S-57.

No connection that I'm aware of.
He is reported to have been largely responsible for the design of the Sikorsky S-39, amongst others, both helicopters and flying boats.
The challenge aircraft itself was also proposed as a missile in a different form!
The name takes the form of the designers name followed by a name that is not uncommon for an aircraft (has been used several times by different manufacturers), and perhaps quite well reflects the appearance of this particular aircraft.
