BEagle, for once in your life,

SHUT THE F**K UP!!

You are not helping the situation. Infact, you, like many others who may have an 'interest' in the scheme, have the ability to really get under the skin of some of the supporters who have donated their hard earned cash from their own pockets to the cause, with your 'know it all' and 'we know beter' and 'the RAF and the V force would never have happened if it weren't for me' attitude. It realy is getting rather tedious. They haven't donated to your own private fund but to the Vulcan to the Sky project.

If I were you, I would listen to Tim and take on board what he has to say and if you really are 'for' the project, take his recommendations forward to your 'contacts' and start fighting along side the many supporters who have shelled out thousands to get the old girl back in the sky.

Start being positive yourself and push those from the HLF and the 'TRUST' (who no one seems to trust) into action.

Rant switch to safe!!

Tim, were you the same Tim McLelland who was at RAF Hendon in the early 1980's??

I wouldn't be too hard on Beagle - I suspect he'd be just as pleased as everyone else if 558 did finally get back into the air. It's just very easy to take the cynical view so that it's less of a disappointment when it all goes horribly wrong!

The way I see things, we're all rather frustrated at the way in which so much of the project goes-on behind closed doors and it is very tempting to throw all kinds of accusations at the Trust members, some of which might have foundation, some of which may not. But if, as seems likely, the Trust is wrapped-up next month, then maybe it will be just the right moment to step-back and take a fresh look at the project while there's still plenty of opportunity to complete the engineering programme. The pledged donations are a great encouragement, the continued fund-raising is good news, and the fact that the Lottery people haven't run-away just yet must be a good sign.

I don't think anyone is fooling themselves into thinking that the Vulcan's future is ever going to be secure and there's always going to be the possibility that the project will simply run out of cash once and for all. But until we reach that final situation I think it would be foolish not to keep on trying, so that if the project ultimately does become unsustainable, we can at least be assured that everyone tried to make it succeed. That's a pessimistic view - it may well be that 558's future turns-out to be rather more exciting than that!

One thing I do have to question though - and I quote:-

“We need companies to come in quickly with sponsorship funds,” explained Geoffrey Pool, chairman of the Vulcan to the Sky Club. “The aircraft could be painted in the livery of an airline or major commercial organisation; or parts of it, such as the tail fin or the bomb-bay doors, can carry corporate colours.”

First-off, I don't think that's strictly true, as I'm sure that the HLF would raise their eyebrows at a "Cold War educational exhibit" appearing in corporate colours! And on a wider theme, I would think that the last thing anyone would want to see is another "Red Bull" circus clown - only bigger! Heaven forbid - I think I'd rather leave XH558 on the tarmac if it came-down to that sort of undignified arrangement!

Tim

Sorry there old chap, have to disagree.

Much rather have any colour/corporate Vulcan flying than none at all. Dignity will arrive at some point in the future, fingers crossed.

I appreciate you were tongue in cheek, but as the project seems to have run out of steam, needs must!

Paint it whatever colour- just let it fly!

My sense of historical accuracy leans me towards your argument, but in all honesty, had Red Bull not sponsored the Sea Vixen, would such a relatively obscure aircraft (to the general public) be flying at major displays? I would like to think so, but I rather suspect not.

There are times when expediency must play a role, and it would be an extremely generous commercial sponsor who would let the aircraft fly unadorned - bang for buck and all that. That is not, however, to say that I would be happy to see it in quite the same state of decoration as the 747 at Brunty (pictured on another thread), looking like a supermarket carrier bag would be to much to bear!

BBC Breakfast

It's 0635 (yawn), and if you missed the first go from Bruntingthorpe on BBC1 Breakfast at 0624 - worry not. they plan to do more at 0720 and 0820 (-ish).

Usual caveats - live programmes change as they go along, so nothing is set in concrete, and times could change. But at least the old girl is getting coverage on national tv

"The major question any investor must surely ask themselves is that out of the £250.000 requested prior to the end of aug, where will this money go and will it be filling the pockets of the parasites who have been asking for exorbitant saries and consultation fees?"

That sort of inflammatory language (made in your post of 1 August) is unhelpful in the extreme, Sham Pain Anyone, as is this constant moaning about the Trust, HLF, Felicity Irwin etc etc.

I have indeed been in contact with the HLF and with others and have also made several contributions. The HLF have politely stated that they are in negotiations with the Trust; continual pin-pricking will not help.

How is the hangover?

Beeb coverage

Have just talked to Breakfast - they tell me they are putting the VTS website on their programme website - they don't put other websites on their screen. I have to say, I don't see it on their website yet. Also, the reporter Tim Muffet (no relation!) will say about contact details at the end of the 0820 piece. They have had people calling in asking for details.

Yes - I also e-mailed Brekkie TV and asked them to publicise the contact details.

The phone no. did at least look a bit clearer on the shot of a couple of minutes ago.

BBC News did a huge [by their standards] number at Bruntingthorpe this morning didn't they?. Reporter and two interviewees with Health and Safety strapping doing interview on port wing upper surface. Couldn't hear dialogue but spot lasted quite a few minutes. I am sure it will be repeated on News 24 all day. They used Prototype footage and Falklands war clip too.

Thanks for posting the links BEagle and plaa343, coming off nights meant there was no chance of me being up to catch it at breakfast!

more Beeb

Thanks for finding the link, Beags. That was the 0624 piece - there were different pieces at about 0720 and 0820 - not sure if those'll get online later.

But I see that it has just made it into the 'most popular' clips - so the more people that view it, the more others are likely to. So keep clicking!

I just watched the BBC clip. Oh dear! Gawd bless 'em, it would have been better if the two spokesmen had been a little more articulate and a little less terrified of speaking into a microphone. The way it came across, it made the Vulcan sound about as significant as Tupperware. Still, any publicity is good publicity.

Hmmm,

I take it you have lots experience talking to journos live on air to millions of people in order to qualify your last post?

They got their point across & hopefully it will make a difference however, I'm not convinced that I'll have to carry out my forfeit (spelling?).

Very good of the BBC to go with it, well done to whoever organised that!

Actually that's what was so disappointing about it - they spectacularly failed to get any point across. Made the aircraft sound as dull as dishwater, sadly.

Wonder why they haven't got a "talking head" to wheel-out for such occasions? Maybe an ex- Bond Girl would have done the job nicely?

That sort of disparaging remark is NOT helping with this issue. I/we would appreciate it if you left your negative remarks elsewhere and let those who care get on with the job!
