It's trendy for MOU pilots to say how unhappy they are and how quickly they'll be outta there when the term ends. However I think you'll find that most are betting their chips on China Southern. If they get in, they go to CSA on further LWOP from QF. If they don't get in I think quite a few will blink at the last moment (if you can call 5 months the last moment), resign from QF and stay at JQ. This scenario has already played out, and the ending of the 3-year terms have only just started.
So it all depends on CSA. What's the success rate? Maybe 50%?

From my past experience, that goes back to 1960 as an intake airline pilot, the old codgers who said "I'm out of here" never, ever, left until the death knock and then some!!
Why would the hypocrites be any different today?

We'll I know of one MOU pilot not betting on CSA or whatever, he's happily resigning to stay in Jetstar. His reason, it's comparable to Q short haul & there's none of the negativity

nine of the negativity
Not what I've heard
I find it hard to take much solace in the statement by the HOFO that "we are confident we will not have to retrench any Second Officers." and " At the end of the VR/RIN timeline we don’t expect to have any surplus crew"
Not because I don't believe him but because I doubt very much that the HOFO is privy to the strategic plans for mainline beyond the current flying plan. Therefore he will be trickle fed information, much as the pilot body is being trickle fed: there seems to be a deliberate effort not to give even the slightest indication about what mainline's future is.
So again I ask: where is the evidence? No aircraft orders (yet), no new routes, not the slightest desire in actually running an airline. I will be as happy as the next mainline pilot if I am proven to be wrong and overly pessimistic.

I don't think there are any other possibilities available.
Or.... Look at it as positively as I think it is possible to do. Qantas -may- not retrench, sack, V/CR, but anyone with half a brain could not rule it out. Use what time is available to squirrel away everything you can to prepare for Armageddon.
It may not happen, but be as prepared as it is possible to be - you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Trusting Elaine (or anyone who might replace him) with your future at Qantas would be akin to expecting Himmler to organise a charity benefit to raise money for a Berlin Synagogue.

A straw poll over the past week seems to indicate that as long as there is a job to go back to (or a temporary option overseas or in the contract world) the majority of QF MOU guys will NOT be resigning from QF to stay at JQ.
Still, most of it is talk at the moment...proof will be in the signature (or not) on the dotted line.
Heard another rumour this week regarding the 787-9 options; That they are far TOO cheap to pass up...around $60M instead of the currently $200M per airframe. Rumour has it that some would go to QF and some to JQ with additional JQ destinations to include SFO and LAS.
Apparently work is in progress on a cunning plan to have the QF airframes flown on JQ pay rates. Not sure how that could be achieved???

That cunning plan has been in play since one idiot gave another idiot (Elaine) the keys to the family safe.
They have destroyed an iconic and unbeatable business in the pursuit of that goal so assume it will happen -even if QF becomes nothing more than a booking agent for a sandpit airline headquartered in the Caymans but locally based out of a Lakemba PO Box.

LAS....It's a leisure destination.
Why would anyone with any money go to Vegas?
