I don't think there are any other possibilities available.
Or.... Look at it as positively as I think it is possible to do. Qantas -may- not retrench, sack, V/CR, but anyone with half a brain could not rule it out. Use what time is available to squirrel away everything you can to prepare for Armageddon.
It may not happen, but be as prepared as it is possible to be - you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Trusting Elaine (or anyone who might replace him) with your future at Qantas would be akin to expecting Himmler to organise a charity benefit to raise money for a Berlin Synagogue.
