Watch five minutes of the Shire or Being Lara Bingle
Shouldn't it be, Watch five minutes of the Shire and/or Being Lara Bingle...
Surely you wouldn't put me through both sets of torture in one sitting...Worrals....

Anyway, hasn't Lara migrated to NZ for a bit of ad work.. or something?....

This music for the advert would make more sense than Daniel Johns dirge like composition.

A dear relative defected from Sunny Queensland to Cronulla and I've been rubbishing her ever since the show was first mooted... The pity is that Cronulla is actually a lovely place and I was secretly jealous. You have to punch where you can...

Agreed, blow.n.gasket.
Raise you one with the remixed version, which would have worked better than the existing soundtrack. They could have played the irony, which is the current fashion in advertising...
What's funny is talking to Yanks and recent visitors to Yankland, the home of advertising. Apparently over there, premium advertising is dead. No-one cares about premium anymore; the key word is 'exclusive'. You sign on to a website, you get text updates about where a cool restaurant might be, you spend half the night trekking through New York alleys reading updates on your phone, end up in a phone booth with a number to call, disappear into an unmarked basement and there's the restaurant. They do pizzas, but they're pizzas other people Haven't Heard Of. Special pizzas...

Yet again, Qantas miss not only the boat but the schedule for the boats' arrivals and departures. Running a text message club with exclusive entry to the Chairmans' Club would have been cheaper and more effective...the inhabitants might have objected but they're mostly pollies and ex board members who don't pay for their seats anyway...

I loathe advertising, and avoid where possible, so couldn't even tell you where or when the shire or being masterchef or lara bingle can dance or any of that rotten reality TV crap is on, where they pay peanuts for amatuers, but charge a premium for advertising...I pprune instead or read books or whatever

But without even trying how much better are these recent offerings??

Clever..

Well thats interesting, just sitting here in London, listening to 2GB. A calller has just suggested that AJ bury his head in a block of concrete on Bondi Beach if he thinks that is the best ad Qantas can come up with. I dont think the message is getting through.

Qantas Advert

Has the Qantas Advert missed the mark? Yep its more of Australia than Qantas. Shows just how misguided and misdirection the CEO and the Board have with the Qantas Brand....How do you win back people when the CEO & the Board grounded the Airline....
It time Qantas went back to its roots, time it started competing and not trying to play catch up....time it forged some new routes...yeah I know dream on...

Fliegenmong, Thanks for the posts, the three clips, all have a very good vibe about them, for me, the second one is very clever, portrays a strong "happy ship" theme.. Ah, the Brits, they can do "pride."

Just got the misses to watch the add from the start without her knowing what it was for and tell me what she thought it was advertising while it rolled.

She first thought it was for insurance, then for farmers.

Her final statement when it finished and the coin dropped was there was nothing international about it.

Watch five minutes of the Shire or Being Lara Bingle and you'll feel better.
Now that's enough to scare anyone away from Australia, forever.

Investigate Qantas over deal rumours: TWU

The Transport Workers’ Union has called on the corporate regulator to investigate whether Qantas and Jetstar breached corporations law by fuelling rumours of deals with other airlines.
Read the Financial Review story which sparked the controversy
The union’s national secretary, Tony Sheldon, said on Tuesday morning: “We are hugely concerned that Qantas-Jetstar management under the leadership of Alan Joyce and Leigh Clifford may have been manipulating and flouting corporation law, by fuelling rumours of a deal with Emirates Airline, and talk of an Asian-based premium airline called Red Q.
“I have written to ASIC this morning, asking them to immediately begin an investigation into whether Qantas-Jetstar may have breached corporation laws. A number of instances recently – including their late disclosure to ASX about the fall in Qantas’ underlying net profits – triggered a collapse in the share price,” he said.

Good to see the TWU still on the case...
It has been an amazing three years at the roo, found a bit of a marathon video called The Turbulent Years 2010 - 2012 - History... for the record of this thread..(47 mins, have to be in a lay back mood to watch it)

a collection of news stories related to Qantas over the past three years..

You got to say, the coverage has been extensive, already an understatement...

ACCC wants further detail on Qantas pan-Asian plans

THE competition watchdog has asked Qantas for more information about its plans to co-ordinate its operations more closely with Jetstar-branded airlines in Asia.

The Qantas Group has warned that its pan-Asian strategy will come under threat unless the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission gives it the green light to co-operate more closely with Jetstar joint ventures in Japan, Vietnam and Singapore.
Qantas-Emirates stories raise and dash expectations again | Plane Talking

If Qantas was looking for a circuit breaker when it comes to raising market and consumer perception of the brand, the stories about an impending, or maybe imploding, deal with Emirates may have missed the mark.
The critical date for Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, and the chairman and board of directors, is 23 August, when they disclose the full year to 30 June results.
They will be ugly. The guidance from Qantas on 5 June that underlying profits would be down by as much as 91% was so disgracefully late that it shouldn’t be termed ‘guidance’ at all.
Hmmm..

Was reading an economic document that cited low airfares as critical to the modern global economy.

People moving from A-B cheaply seems to be the future.

Surely there must be room for more than just Boeing and Airbus metal? China/Russia/Japan????????????? Will wages be supported by cheaper metal?

Keep posting pics of Alan Joyce. He has managed to become "the face" of Qantas in the mind of the public since the grounding.

Now all Virgin needs to do is come up with a stellar advertising campaign and QF will really be in trouble.....

I don't know of ANY traveller from Melbourne who will willingly fly Qantas and Jetstar these days.

...except those poor people with no money and a lot of Coles frequent flyer points.

They must buy an awful lot from Coles. I did the maths last time they were touting the scheme and worked out that you basically had to buy enough food for a family of six, every single week, to get enough points for an annual flight to Sydney.

Coles??

I'm not surprised you don't get a generous reward in Qantas flights for shopping at Coles. Afterall, Qantas are aligned with Woolworths.
Virgin are aligned with Coles though. Do they have a free trip to LA at the bottom of every packet of Weetbix?

Thanks, I stand corrected. From memory the one I actually looked at was Fly Buys and it didn't seem worth all the rooting around.

The questions that we have always had are only now starting to be asked by the market and journos. There will be change and i don't think its far off. A week or two lets hope.

Cathay digs in on its home turf

Cathay digs in on its home turf

Jetstar has to gain approval from regulators in Hong Kong for its new venture there, but Cathay has used the latest application from Qantas to highlight the hurdles the new airline will face.
Cathay has hinted to the ACCC that it should delay making a decision on whether to allow Jetstar Hong Kong to be included in any closer co-ordination of services between Qantas and the Jetstar offshoots until it has gained the green light from regulators in Hong Kong.
"It is also possible that conditions may be imposed on any approval given in Hong Kong," Cathay said.
"Accordingly, it may be difficult for the ACCC to authorise the proposed conduct in relation to Hong Kong if it is unclear whether Jetstar will be granted approval to operate flights within Hong Kong and, if it is granted approval, what the conditions of that approval may be."
Qantas unveiled plans early this year to launch a low-cost airline in Hong Kong as part of a joint venture with China Eastern. The new airline plans to begin flying by the middle of next year.
Could become a real bun fight in the coming months, some say this move could damage the "one world" relationship with CX

I think if Qantas' tie up with Emirates goes ahead it will be the end of their membership to OneWorld anyway.
