So I take it Skywest, Virgin, and Tiger were also singled out to pay their overseas maintenance providers Australian wages as well.....no didn't think so

QANTAS - where to now?

Well 15 767 skippers have discovered today that the destination for them is to be the 737.

The CP has mentioned the 'expansion' on the 737. Given the only 'expansion' appears to be in Perth it will be interesting to see where these SYD or MEL based pilots will end up.

Under the current LH EA they may also choose to demote to an FO slot on the 380 displacing a more junior pilot - that's gonna get real messy, real quickly.

On the plus side they'll get their iPads sooner.

My thoughts go out to them as they and their families contemplate a somewhat uncertain future.

Oh, the inefficiencies of a multi brand segmented business.

Qantas mainline has a surplus of wide body Boeing Captain's with plenty of time on type.

Electing to down train them as A380 FO's or B737 Captains.

Meanwhile, over at Jetstar their preparing for the arrival of the 787 next year.

What's a 767 to 787 transfer take? 2 or 3 weeks.

The cancer has now spread to the vital organs of the organisation. Engineering gutted, over 200 pilots having left on lwop without much chance of there being much left in the near term or long term for their return and a reduction in numbers on the fleet that supposedly forms an important part of the domestic network......... Well obviously not.
Glad chairman Mao has the answers.

They use to value experience.

If I recall correctly. Boeing Captains were required to fly the A330 prior to the arrival of the A380.

Using the same logic, wouldn't the introduction of the 787 in the QF group require prior and recent Boeing Widebody time?

Forget about it - these shonks don't care about "experience" any longer...
It sort of reminds me of that "Sol kind of feeling" we had to endure back in those "wreaking crew days" at Telstra. .

Yep, (in a nutshell ) that's the problem with this new breed of managers and their strategies... what was that old saying again..eh.... "take the money and run..."

I suppose Sol thought the same about telecommunications, (just ask Vodafone Aus, now also known in slang as Vodaflop)

I don't think any business can afford to take their eye off the ball, particularly in an industry where good technical expertise is required to be maintained. (eg. aviation). Play around with the available expertise elements by cutting corners, may end up in tears. the endgame, invariably, too many helpless innocent bystander's get caught up in it all....

The future of Qantas is simple.

1. Buy the company for peanuts thanks to incompetent management.

2. Extract Three billion in cash that the airline now holds and replace it with cheap American debt. Take a "management fee" as well.

3. Repair the damage done by said incompetent management (easy and quick to do.)

4. Tell a good story to the stock market and refloat.

5. Walk away with five to Ten times your original investment.

6. Sip champagne in the South of France while the indebted company goes tits up.

Ask Mitt Romney how its done.

tend to agree, it will track something like that, but the question remains, where are the shareholders? They have seen they value gutted by this mob, and they are sitting back and letting it happen.

Talk about lemmings!

The only way out is shareholder revolt.

Qantas lost "shareholders" and gained "speculators" when they stopped paying a dividend.

Without strong growth there will be no long term advance in the share price regardless of a takeover bid. Even if QF was to become a lean, mean machine I don't think the next 5 years will be very good years economically.

I would expect the share price to go sideways for sometime. It will lose some ground when the formal loss is reported and perhaps a credit downgrade is announced.....

There are other companies so much more attractive to invest in at the moment. BHP is trading at a PE ratio of 7 right now.... BP is trading at a little under 6. It would take one hell of a presentation to pitch the idea of rescuing Qantas to suits...

Has anyone done a "simulation" on where QF would be situated if the 767, 747, and A380 where all replaced by the 777 some years back. I guess this would have come under the days of Dixon, Packer etc.

Can imagine an attitude like that would be really welcomed amongst the 737 ranks.

It's a terminology issue in terms of the award and our FAM. Reading more into it than that- particularly when it comes after the words F/O A380- is probably jumping at shadows.

Just listened to the new QF theme song on another (now locked) thread.
I think it is particularly relevant to this thread - it symbolises where Qantas is headed.
No real substance, nothing about the product, and lots of moaning.
What a senseless waste.

Can't say the song resonates with me and I love Australia and the Qantas Brand.

Its going to be tricky to pull the national pride heartstring when everyone seems more interested in the price and price only.

Commonwealth bank had some trouble with "thank you for banking with us today". Every customer in the long queues heard the compulsory saying and to say it was a failure is prob a gross understatement. Point is sometimes things work, sometimes they don't.

For me - Miranda Kerr was working well as an ambassador - get her to sing the song or dance around in her lingerie and they might have something
