from NATS' careers page....
We are sorry for the delay some applicants have been experiencing. This has been due to the high volume of applications we have received. If you have submitted an application and are waiting to hear from us, you can expect an email within the next two weeks advising you of the next steps. that was 20 days ago. Suffice to say I have not heard anything within "two weeks", and they've now removed it from their page. It's still on their blog, but.... :ugh: |
" Hi all, I received an email today from NATS following my Stage 1 Assessement last week, and, as they say on Dragons Den... I'm out! http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...lies/sowee.gif
I answered 46/50 on the diagramming and only 30/40 on the cubes, so maybe it wasn't enough, or I got a fair few wrong...who knows?! For those asking about timings (If I remember correctly): Test 1 = 18 mins (30 Questions) - Those that fail this test are sent home. Test 2 = 25 mins (50 Questions) Test 3 = 20 mins (40 Questions) Good Luck to the rest of you! http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...lies/smile.gif " Is the test 1 you outlined a combination of ATC questions (from booklet emailed) and numeracy? i presumed they were seperate tests..? Thanks to anyone who replies :) |
I am wondering what they call exactly paper and pencil tests ? Because if is not computer test how they do to give us the result of the ATC test so quickly?
"Paper and pencil test" is just relative to the sheet of paper and pen they give us if we want to down on it some mental arithmetic ? To those who are still "learning the material document" I found an interesting video from NATS (on their website) which explain how ATC works, I think that can help.. |
were the spatial reasoning and diagramming questions similar to the one's we received in the stage 1 confirmation email? Were they easier or more complex?
|
My first exam had about 3 or 4 maths questions of the S = D/T type.
All 3 exams are done on paper. After completing the first exam, it is taken away and marked. The examiner then comes back and calls out the names, this may be for the people who have passed or failed. My first exam included questions about:
My advice is to read up on separations, practice Maths problems using (S = D/T), ILS', Airspaces (and adjacent control zones), MATZ's, ATZ's, LTCC, LACC. I hope this helps and for anyone from NATS, sorry if i've said too much! :oh: |
have my stage 1 on wednesday at 11:00 novotel, although i shall be rather gutted if i do not pass, i will be more pi** about the fact that i had spent so much just to attend,
Great post, many useful pointers look forward to seeing you guys! |
I'm out as well. gutted like bell, specialy at my age but starting preparations today for next September
|
obviously like hell ;) not bell
|
The diagramming and spatial reasoning are a LOT LOT harder than practise examples.....
Read whole booklet and practise rearranging sdt maths and you will be fine, in my opinion its pretty impossible to fail that original test (althought half our group did god knows how....) Also dont think you can do much practise on spatial reasoning/diagramming, you can either do it or you cant, my only piece of advice is manage your time and try to attempt as many as possible (this is where I came up short).... |
Does anyone know if there will be more Stage 1 testing dates posted beyond what is currently listed?
|
Thought it best I sign up here after reading through this thread the last couple of weeks!!
Have my Stage 1 on Wednesday and have been reading through the material and practicing my maths. One thing I noticed and was wondering if this was the same for others is that the material they sent is very out of date. I mean it talks of the Airbus A380 rolling out in 2007! I assume the distances and acronyms we have to learn are still the same but Scott C above talks about the likes of a MATZ, which I had to google as there is nothing in the material about this?!? I have to say my brain is frazzled from all the information and visualizing cubes in my head! Good luck to all those still waiting :ok: |
Hey guys, pretty happy with the NATS recruitment process so far, had quite quick responses. Filled the online form out on Tuesday, invited to online assessment on Wednesday, now invited to stage one. I'm going down on 4th Oct, hope to see some of you there and best of luck to everyone.
|
Hi,
Reading through the latter part of this thread I have come across a few people who still hadn't been invited to do the online test - have they still not been invited? I applied on the 9th July and have heard pretty much nothing since the "We are currently considering your application" email. I've emailed NATS HR but was just told they're still considering my application and they'll contact me shortly, that was weeks ago. I also noticed their facebook page saying they'd let us know in 2 weeks etc.. |
hi, golf pimp, yes there are still at least a few of us in exactly the same situation as yourself. Frustrating, isn't it?
|
thegolfpimp: welcome to the "dropout" club...
|
I don't understand why it is taking them so long to invite you to testing.
I applied, got an email the next day to do the online test and the day after that got invited to stage one. This was just last week. I would inquire with HR further if I were you. |
Hi all...
I have stage 1 upcoming. A question I have is whether the calculations are mental or you can have a calculator? I've read through their site however can't seem to see whether or not you are allowed to use a calculator. Anyone know? |
Pleasant 300 mile drive home after my Stage 1.
Just less than half of us got through the first paper (at a rough estimate). Not over confident to be honest; 'mindf*ck' springs to mind. Stage 2 would be a bonus at this point. Got another attempt in reserve should I need it but I doubt I'll re-apply. I'll have stumbled at the same point twice - the diagramming & cubes. To me this proves that you either can, or can't do these (accurately and fast enough). Good luck to anyone who was at the 1045 today (20th September). Roll on the waiting game... |
Also just to confirm guys...
The Stage 1 Tests are in the following order...
Hope osmeone can help. |
It is very frustrating. Having been through the application process before and getting to Stage 3 I am quite bewildered as to why it is taking so long to get an invite to the online test.
I have contacted HR so many times I don't want them to get the feeling I am harassing them! I did wonder if my application had been "lost" as I applied on the 9th July (on the Facebook page it said applications opened on the 13th) but when I emailed them suggesting this I was told that my application is being considered. Oh well. We'll wait and see I guess. Atleast there is a few (or more) of us in this predicament. Anything else we have in common? Could be a reason for it. |
I too am out. Damn drat shucks. Pass mark must be extremely high judging by some (not mine) of the peoples scores who have not gone through.
Good luck to the rest of you! |
@Tim91 - did you give them everything about your prescription on your eyes? (presuming you have a prescription).
I have mild astigmatism in my left eye and didn't know ALL of the numbers for it but I didn't know they didnt know...and they needed to know :hmm: That's why this application took so long to process and by the time I knew they needed to know :ugh: the application window had shut! Make sure they have all the info (base curve / SPH / CYL etc.) |

apps on android
Using air traffic controller app which is very basic has a few bugs but all good.. atc lite which is good fun and doing sequential Memory tests... there is a cube practice app on android that I have found which is quite challenging and good practice I thought.
Anyone doing stage 2 next Friday and have any advice on any practice been doing? |
thegolfpimp It is very frustrating. Having been through the application process before and getting to Stage 3 I am quite bewildered as to why it is taking so long to get an invite to the online test. I have contacted HR so many times I don't want them to get the feeling I am harassing them! There is always the chance that the people on this forum represent a tiny proportion of the total NATS applicants, and that we're getting a very skewed perspective on how things are moving. I prefer my first theory though |
I have been reading through this thread for the last few weeks so thought I would register and wish those still waiting good luck :ok:
I have my stage 1 next Wednesday and my brain is just frazzled learning all the material and studying those damn cubes. One point about the material though is that it seems to be incredibly out of date, I mean it talks about the A380 being ready to be rolled out in 2007, I take it everyone's is the same? It's just that Scott C on the previous page talks about ATZ and MATZ which aren't mentioned at all in the material provided. Google has helped on this but does anyone know will they be asking a number of questions that isn't in the material? Thanks and once again good luck!! |
CDNATPL : There are presently 4 dates propose for stage 1 and 8 slots for each days.
That's mean in 4 days NATS can assess 32X about 40 persons=1280.(it's really huge) I think they won't propose new date before having filled those slot. We can assume now that most people willing to take part of NATS selection have filled the online registration, so think will return to normal soon or later. |
as my humble memory recalls , having 3500 to 7000 aplicants that are invited to stage 1 is very very usual for nats . so 1280 slots are way too few imho.
|
I'm in the 'still waiting' camp too, got to stage 3 twice previously, applied on 6th Aug and yet to get the invitation.. Giving newbies priority would be my guess from what people are saying?
|
Was on the 8:15 session on the 20th, back home yesterday and found out that I made it through stage 2. That was really quick. Regarding the test, if you learn your materrial there is no surprise, pretty much everything is on it. About 50% were invited to go home after the first part...For the second part you need to be really fast, the 20 mns are flying!
Good luck to everyone! |
HeaVn..you had your stage one on the 20th and have already heard?! Mine was on the 14th in the afternoon and I still don't know!! I'm pretty certain I've failed but would like to know! It seems to be quite sporadic the way in which they inform people of their progress through the application process. They must have a really elaborate system to work it all out!! :) Maybe you were a definite pass and people who have already heard a negative response from my session were a definite fail but maybe there's a borderline category or something which is why I don't know anything yet?! :)

Stage 1 Tests - HELP
Hey, I was hoping someone would be able to help me understand the diagramming and cube tests.
Is the cube test made up of only cube questions, or are there other types of questions mixed in as well, such as what comes next in the sequence, or spot the difference? Also, is the diagramming test made up of the same type of questions as in the practice paper (i.e. circle = shade in, square = swap colours etc) or are there other questions (such as, abc -> (%) -> (£) -> cbax) where you have to work out what the symbols mean? Any help is very much appreciated, really stressed here!! |
The cubes are just cubes..hehe
And in the diagramming it's like the ones they gave you except there are a ton of rules. It's pretty simple but you have to be quick |
Stage 1
Been reading this forum and posting for quite some time. I have my Stage 1 on the 26th at 16:00. Flying down MAN-SOU tomorrow and staying at the Novotel so if anyone is around let me know.
I wish the best to everyone and if you don't pass first time round, you can always try again, remember that not everyone passes their driving test first time round aye? :) |
stage 1 wed 26 - 13pm
Hello
I will be going on the 25th also, test on 26th at 1pm BST. I'll be staying at B&B on howard street (novotel was too rich for me, at least for now...). Regards |
Stage 1
Hang in there those people still waiting on a reply from their application!
I'm due for stage 1 for Oct 4th! It would be great if someone who has done stage 1 could tell me if they allow you to use a calculator for the maths part of it? That's the one thing bugging me, along with having to know everything in their test materials booklet :ugh: x |
Hi guys
Can any one tell me roughly how many mathematic questions there are is it a full paper? Thanks! Sarah |
Well, that's me done. Didn't make the cut into Stage 2 so like I previously said, I won't be trying a third time; you can either do the cubes or you can't and I know that's why I've fumbled twice.
Congrats to those of you who've got through to whatever stage and all the best for the future stages / college. I'm now back on the house hunt and family plan (everyone needs a backup :ok:) |
Rae_M: no calculator is permited. Paper and pencil test; you get scrap paper in case you need it. Let me add though, that the literature you have to learn for stage 1, is by no stretch of imagination anywhere near to what you have to study in college... I mean, the panflet is not even anywhere near a preface to the real studying.
Sarz492: I don't really know what you mean by "questions there are is it a full paper?". But, the numerical test has 20 questions and the time provided: 5min. conc1845: give it another go mate!, but this time work on your weaknesses and you'll get through! |
@Mts1: Thank you so much! Do we really have 20 questions to get through in 5 mins??
I've heard they've incorporated the first test with the numeracy side of things. This is really worrying and making me go into panic mode. How can I possibly answer these speed/distance/time questions within 5 minutes without a calculator? :uhoh: |
