When Will You Hear
This is only a guess, but my theory as to why some people get confirmation very quickly and some take a while is wholly down to how you scored. If you score very well on the tests your in and there is no point delaying letting you know. If you score badly your out, so again, no point dragging out your anxiety. If you score to an acceptable level, they will hold off letting you know because other higher scorers may come through in later tests that could potentially knock you out. So no news is good news as far as I am concerned. You can't do better than your best in any instance, so if you do get knocked back at least you can take comfort from the fact that in 3/5years from now when your on a plane somewhere over the UK, you know the person controlling hasn't blagged their way in and that you are in well trained hands.
So in summary. lets say there are 500 (pure guess) places at the next stages, if you haven't heard, I'd say you're in one of those places, with the caveat that you could drop off if more high scores come along. |
@ The I've sort of come to the same conclusion myself but also fear that I may be deluding myself :) The speculation is driving me nuts :}
|
If it is as THE has suggested then could everybody about to take the tests NOT try their very best please.
Thank you :ok: Seriously though I'm itching to find out, I'd love to be an ATCO. Good luck to everybody that's still waiting or about to take the tests. |
maths on stage 1
Well.... I have go trough the material given on the invitation mail, and I have not found anything relative to mathematic problems whatsoever...
People here talk about some numerical questions... Dis I miss something? Cheers and good luch all |
The maths questions are general knowledge.. They could give you a million examples if they really wanted.. Just brush up on mental arithmetic etc!
|
Roo2002 and JoDuck, good luck and let us know when you get your email. It's starting to kill me a bit now with the wait. I must admit, what The said makes sense. Seems sensible to let those who have definitely passed and certainly not passed be informed of their results as soon as possible.
|
THANKS! It , should be fine then , cheers!
|
what dates are available for stage 2 at the moment?
|
Relevant read
Please guys I will like to ask a yes or no answer. Is the part that talked about different aircraft and their speed relevant to read? I have my stage 1 test tomorrow. Thanks for your response in advance.

The,
........ If you score to an acceptable level, they will hold off letting you know because other higher scorers may come through in later tests that could potentially knock you out. ........ So in summary. lets say there are 500 (pure guess) places at the next stages, if you haven't heard, I'd say you're in one of those places, with the caveat that you could drop off if more high scores come along. There is no relative scoring throughout the process, it is all absolute scoring, i.e. against a fixed standard. If everyone who applies makes the standard, then everyone gets in (albeit with a very long wait time!). |
As of this morning - stage 2 is available 11th, 16th, 17th and 23rd of this month.
Spaces are being used up though - when I made my choice the 5th was still available! |
thanks sarah
|
At stage 1 when you do the diagramming tests are you given the key at the start and then you have to memorise the key for all the questions or is the key available throughout the questions?
Thanks, Owen (who is currently sitting in his hotel room continuously reading the provided document nervously anticipating what is to come later today) |
When I did them the key was available throughout, but I don't belive we were allowed to study it before the test started (even thuogh I'm not sure, it's been a while).
|
Owen - the key is available throughout :) it's more complicated than the practise ones, so if it wasn't they would be impossible!!
|
Sarah Lou and Crazy Voyager -
Thank you both for your replies. Glad the key is available throughout just came over with a ton of worry if it was like 10+ keys I had to memorise for 50 questions ha. |
see what you mean...
So, I see what you say, if you pass a fixed requirement you will get in, even in later courses.
This makes me wonder what is the hold-up then, and if I should contact HR. I can tell you, this puzzles me more than the cubes or diagramming... ;) |
Easy for me to say, as I didn't wait very long, but I would think that contacting them before the 15 day period is over just likely to irritate them... they are getting through them...
Good luck to all waiting to hear :) |
well... :)
I see what you mean Sarah... I kind of agree.
I also like to think that they would contact anyone should a problem/information request arise during the process. But I sure wish what the hold up is... ;) - in part because I am located in Portugal, so, if getting through, would appreciate some days to prepare my trip for stage 2. Well, here is to hoping and that they get back to us all still waiting fairly quickly with good news :). |
Stage 2??
I kind of agree with Sarah as it clearly states 15 working days wherever you look. However we were specifically told on 26th we'd find out within 'a couple of days'. This is what's leading to the frustration about not knowing. Especially as lots of people who have sat stage 1 since then already have a reply.
Gonzo..any thoughts? |
Test 4th Oct 9am
Anyone the same date , Im staying at hotel Ibis across the road if anyone's the same.
|
What shall I wear to my Stage One? It mentions Smart/Casual, but was just wondering what everybody else wore? I'm thinking trousers, shirt, and blazer? with no tie?
Thanks |
Stage 1
Had my stage 1 today!
I have absolutely no idea how I did, is this a normal feeling? Really enjoyed the morning, just hoping for a positive outcome! I don't want to tempt fate but I would like to start preparing for stage 2, any tips would be gratefully received :) |
when we will arrive to the novotel we have to answer at the receptionist about the test? or there are the table of nats?
|
NATS table on your left as you go in, they'll check your ID and ask you to take a seat in the hotel reception :ok:
|
I wore a shirt and tie with black pants. Some people did the same, some people had suits, some people wore jeans and a smart shirt..it's really your call!
|
Oct 4th 2pm
Stage 1 tomorrow.. I'm getting really nervous. Worrying about the planes and the data they gave, I know its been asked already but I'm not sure if anyone has answered.. are there many questions in the tests that require lots of knowledge about them all, or is it pretty basic? Thanks. Good luck to all the others going tomorrow!
|
You are not formally interviewed until stage 3 - suits not required till then!
|
Tim, I'm sorry to be negative but perhaps you didn't pass the paper-sift/application form stage? That is a very long time! Have you emailed recruitment to ask for an update?
|
got feeback, i'm out
so... I was one holding out from the 26th, got my feedback, it's negative.
No nats for me then. All the best luck to those still in with a chance. Anyhow, will never look upon planes and plane travel the same anyway. :) just regret the money I spent for this afair, nothin else |
I'm out too! :(
I know it was the cubes that did for me and the 2nd and 3rd cube formations at that. I'll try again next year. The best of luck to everyone still in. I was disappointed going out at stage 1 so I imagine going out at Stage 3 can be heartbreaking so make sure you prepare as well as you possibly can, don't come out thinking you could have done just one thing more to prepare. |
mountain how many diags and cubes did u manage to do?
|
cubes and diags
well...
as i recall arround 35 diagrams (am sure 90%+ correct, probably 95%+). Cubes I did all 40 of them, but i'd say about 40% correct. I have no idea if they want precision, speed or a combination. I would guess on combination of both... I surelly would like to know the trade-off since its not inexpensive to go there for the testing and, except if you are very at easy with it (meaning, doing it all easy and on time), than it would be good that you can choose if you go for speed or precision without that being a guess... Oh well, such is life and things... Good luck! |
If you can pass over this unfortunate event , practice more and come back next year you have my TOTAL respect . Sorry for you misfortune !
|
Sorry to hear 2 slips and Mountain.
I'm still waiting to hear from the 26th also. :ooh: |
guys can someone answer please..
is it normal to receive and email 2 weeks after sitting stage one to say you was unsucesful even if you was told you had not passed after taking the FIRST atc test paper? Regards |
Anyone now at the Novotel?
|
Sat SG1 @4pm on the 26th and just had my not successful email.
Gutted, but see you all again next year. :ok: |
Has everyone that heard back being succesful heard back sooner rather than later? It seems people who have waited for any considerable amount of time have not been succesful. Anyone have anything that goes against this trend?
I had my stage one yesterday it went relatively well passed the first section with I believe some ease. Although I was a little worried when only 6 names including myself were called to leave the room I thought I was out (here were about 18 at the start). After the cubes and diagramming though I felt a lot less xonfident with my performance. Good luck to anyone on stage one today. Sorry for any mistakes wrote this on the train on my phone. |
Got my email from NATS, its a no for me, ah well. I did fine on the ATC obviously, only completed 36 of 50 diagramming but I was certain on 99% of them. On the cubes I did complete them but was not confident at all.
Oh well, I WILL be applying again next year as I know what to expect. Good luck to everyone else |
