Surely they didn't just wake up one morning and find they had no crews? :rolleyes: This is the result of pilots handing in their notice left, right and centre for the last year. Poor management and lack of communication to the crews has resulted in this situation. Everyone has been kept in the dark knowing cuts would be around the corner. Surely they can't be surprised all the pilots are finding alternative employment? However It would seem they have been caught with their trousers down. |
The only contingency plan they could possibly have in place is more cuts. You can't dream up a captain in 3 months like you can a first officer.

Seems ridiculous. You would have thought that they would have tried hard to keep the crew on side throughout the uncertain period, not left them dangling or rather job-seeking. It will be interesting to see how may they loose when trying to close bases and run a summer schedule. Hopefully they will incentivise crews to stay to the bitter end with a bonus....

The bottom line is the company don't really care about the crew. You can give them years of service but what does it all mean when the following day you're up for redundancy? We are expendable assets, nothing more, nothing less. The only time they care is if we as a collective group are harming the business with either resignations or industrial action. Clearly the former is harming the business, the company have put in place a retention bond but what they fail to realise is the only people signing up for it are the ones that had always planned to stay anyway so effectively they've thrown money at the wrong people. Anyone with half a brain could see what was coming, anyone who thought otherwise were just in denial or were blinkered. Fat lot of good a retention bond will do you when you're in the job centre trying to coax RBI1 forms out of the government.

Crewing shortage has been apparent for a while, couple that with the lack of news and and uncertainty and crews have been leaving in droves. Feel really sorry for cabin crew in the bases that are closing as they will find it harder than the flight crews to find work.

It doesn’t help that the airline made such a hash of the E-jet announcement by talking of bases being shut down rather than explaining that it’s a long-term plan to shift less profitable aircraft. On top of that, the management have been virtually invisible amid the current rash of cancellations. Public relations 101. |

If, as Wikipedia suggest, Flybe have 6 195s and 11 175s to withdraw out of a fleet of 71 aeroplanes by the end of the year I would guess there won't be a pilot shortage for long and there will be quite a few routes being chopped, unless there are more Q400s coming? Are they really going to shrink by 20%? I wonder which routes are at risk?
edit in light of better information it appears 6 195s and 4 175s to go so 10 out of 71 planes departing, 14%. quiet a sizeable reduction so possibly a reduction in number of back room and front line staff as well as a fair few routes probably going? not good news at all. Anyone know where the 7 remaining 175 are likely to be used? bb |

I think Flybe must be suffering from a temporary lack of interest in new staff applying for jobs given the recent past noise around their previously impending failure. Now they have been rescued that problem should go away but it will take several months to get back to normal.

LMAO ....everyone and his dog knows flybe is on it’s last legs , Only question is how long are those legs , Staff are baling as fast as possible for that reason , add the fact that flybe pay far less than most other operators for comparable roles |
Does anyone else HATE the pre-flight safety announcement voice-over? Every time I hear it it grates on me. It sounds too unprofessional & local.
I personally think the airline needs COMPLETELY new management & aircraft. I WOULD RATHER TAKE THE TRAIN FOR 6 HOURS THAN SIT ON FLYBE FOR AN HOUR |

Yes agree. I know the Q400 is safe but they are getting old and unreliable and now need a lot of TLC to keep them going. What worries me is Flybe doesn't have the cash to do this. So I start to get nervous. Plus they are so rickety on landing in windy weather its a white knuckle ride.

Flybe have just told me that the Winter 19/20 timetable may not be published until some time in May; hopefully later this month but not definite.
