Manchester Statistics - December 2017 (Part 1)
Destinations that are either new (no passengers since my records started in January 2005), or have not been served for a number of years - if the latter then the month and year of the last service is shown. Edmonton appears for the first time, however I am slightly skeptical of the CAA data of 3 scheduled passengers. Kharkov (Ukraine) was another newcomer with 565 charter passengers. One domestic statistic are currently missing from the CAA report for December. Belfast City has yet to provide figures Total passengers for this route in December 2016 were 20,603 Moving monthly and annual figures - based on CAA statistics/MAG statistics Monthly passengers - 1,833,620 + 1.50% Annual Total- 22,548,757 Moving Annual Total - 27,791,274 + 8.51 Monthly Movements - 13,993 -3.12% Annual Movements - 161,259 Moving Annual Movements - 203,631 + 5.96% Manchester Statistics -December 2017 (Part 2) Top 25 destinations - by passenger numbers DUBAI................................................ 92,006 DUBLIN.............................................. 85,402 AMSTERDAM..................................... 80,314 HEATHROW....................................... 61,337 TENERIFE (SURREINA SOFIA)............. 61,110 PARIS (CHARLES DE GAULLE)............. 54,060 FRANKFURT....................................... 41,180 ABU DHABI......................................... 40,617 ALICANTE........................................... 38,772 ARRICIFE............................................ 31,645 MUNICH............................................. 30,055 COPENHAGEN.................................... 28,997 DOHA................................................. 28,800 ORLANDO.......................................... 28,309 BERLIN (SCHONEFELD)....................... 27,611 KEFLAVIK............................................ 26,380 MALAGA............................................ 26,337 GENEVA............................................. 24,772 BELFAST INTERNATIONAL.................. 24,447 BRIDGETOWN.................................... 23,195 LAS PALMAS....................................... 22,411 HAMBURG.......................................... 22,156 ISTANBUL............................................ 20,709 DUSSELDORF...................................... 19,319 FUERTAVENTURA............................... 19,306 CAA statistics for December are provisional. Saudia RUH slots were pulled a few weeks ago for Summer 2018. Will be x5 JED.
EZY T2 five extra won't be happening, they will be adding a couple into T1 making x14 based from end of July. |

Ahhh, but is he ?;) The rest of your post is interesting and informative, just a shame about the rant.:= |
By all means be critical of any airline and yes the points are valid however they were very specific and more appropriate for jet blast ?
The geo political China discussion was highly interesting and whilst it was in the context of Manchester, it was highly relevant to Birmingham, Edinburgh and possibly what is my own local airport Stansted. |

Totally agree with you re Hainan. I also travel into China and also "Stans" and always use LH for the long haul work if just going into China, though have obviously used Hainan within China. Can honestly say I prefer LH by some margin and obviously sometimes use EK or even SQ if I have other projects to visit out East. With regards to arm chair travellers / key board wordsmiths I think you have to be tolerant, as after all as you say we are the "lucky ones" who get to go to these places, and fly these routes - I keep telling myself that every time Mrs Mac bends my ear about having another extended trip, or things go Pear shaped while I am half a world away ! |

Runcorn Bridge
Easyjet have handed back most of their extra slots, only holding enough for 14 based now. Cabin crew training is also backed up (Air Berlin training taking up bulk of the spaces) so won’t have the quantity to operate 17 based aircraft. |
TG have been talking about MAN for at least 25 years because I went to a launch dinner in Manchester one year and I have been out of travel 15 years so don`t expect them in a hurry. "This morning Andy [Burnham] welcomed His Excellency Mr Pisanu Suvanajata, Thai Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland @ThaiEmbLondon, to @greatermcr. Topics for discussion included UK-Thailand international trade cooperation and the Eastern Economic Corridor." |

Frankly, I think the best chance of Beijing being the success it could be is Air China....ditto Shanghai - you get your Star points and arrive at a proper terminal.
FWIW, I'll be heading that way again in May...with Lufthansa. I suppose this shows where MAN is, and one of its main weaknesses is the lack of a hub carrier in one of the major alliances which brings a concentration of Frequent Flyers under one banner. Until that changes, there are always advantages in routing through one of the major alliances hubs to get the proper treatment. I suspect this is why CX and SQ continue to perform in the Far East - you get what you pay for. I forget who mentioned the political issues with Air China, but it would be disappointing if those held back what could be a successful and presumably slicker operation at Shanghai than Hainan at Beijing. Worth remembering for India, as Mr Mac has mentioned (and I agree) I'd not pick Air India over the gulf carriers, and the same applies for a loco solution. I assume many more would also make that decision. |

INDIA
If an Indian operator started a route, I doubt I would be on it. Emirates every time. The only potential carrier that could make a MAN-India route work is Virgin. I would use that as a known entity. You never know. Easyjet This opinion won't be popular here but I'm rather glad that EZY won't be expanding in T1 at the suggested rate although I'm still nervous about an extra 2 based. Reason? T1 departures cannot cope first thing. I was out with Lufty on the first morning wave on Sunday morning and the check-in area was chaos.....in February! What would it be like in July? It's worth remembering that the check in area is pretty much the same thing that was built in 1974 - it's tiny when you look at it. Mr Mac Sounds like we have very similar lives! Not as glamorous as people think hey? |
FF Man
I agree with you on all your points. T1 & T3 are an endurance rather than an experience. I've done a number of CX trips to HKG and Im pretty sure I'll be reverting to EK, non stop isn't always everything. |
Have any of the longhaul posters here ever travelled to China via Helsinki? Obviously a more direct route than any of the ME3, even than LH.
|
Wouldn’t TCX be a good option for a direct India / BKK route?
|
From a leisure perspective, why not.
From a business perspective, no. This is partly because of the product, but also because TCX are not in an alliance (therefore no accumulation of points and other connecting opportunities), TCX would be unlikely to offer sufficient frequency to those destinations and also do not have a wide enough network to encourage business flyers to shift their custom from (e.g.) One World, Star, Skyteam. |

In the news today.
Jet Airways has stated that it is looking to start flights to another U.K. city, with Manchester and Birmingham as options. I feel MAN may be more likely however, as the MAN-BOM market is larger than BHX (BOM being Jet’s main hub), MAN is the divert alternative in the U.K. and there is the Virgin partnership to exploit also. Secondly, IndiGo has applied to serve LGW/MAN/BHX in the U.K from Oct 2018, but BHX May get that one if they are serious about taking over Air India’s long haul network. (Of course, by applying for the 3 U.K. airports they may have the intention to start all 3?) |
SpiceJet? Slots, flight numbers, etc. but other factors derailed this ambition.
MAN is the divert alternative in the U.K. Can anyone recall why the Air India flight didn't last? Politics or yield? |
Planes don`t divert much now except for medical problems
|
That's a whole separate subject - MAN still takes approx 150 diversions a year even with strict 'no div' NOTAMS, etc.
What I'm saying is that a diversion alternate contract rarely results in anything and Jet Airways usually clears off to AMS if problems at LHR. |
