Excellent news LAX_LHR! Thanks for keeping us posted.

This will further consolidate Manchester as 3rd largest airport in the UK and jettison the airport past 30m.
one of the largest in Europe.

Finnair

Cheers Ian

Still showing end of March until the 11 May as the A319. I know you can never trust aircraft types for AY/AF/LH/LX as they change all the time but I thought it might be more permanent.

Obviously a bit of interest down here as it is probably BHX's best chance of a new full service airline.

A - ga - dir, dir, dir, push pineapple (etc)

As well as EZY we also have new entrant Air Arabia Maroc on MAN-AGA. With FR joining in this starts to feel a little crowded for what must be a thin-ish route. I fear casualties. People have a habit of leaving the room when Mr. O'Leary enters, but having said that TAP and Iberia haven't blinked on MAN-LIS and MAD, respectively, with respect.

LAX_LHR 25th Jan 2018 17:54

Apparently Air Arabia have bigger plans for MAN, with 2-3 new routes. A public notice board in T1 also states more routes to come too.

The96er 25th Jan 2018 18:52

Their pax figures are pretty dire though. I think only once have they achieved more than double figures.

eggc 25th Jan 2018 19:10

Some superb news today from MAN. Who'd have though MON's gaps would be filled, and then some, so quickly.

Plane.Silly 26th Jan 2018 07:03

It would have been a no brainer. With its huge catchment area, and the loss on 9 based a/c, it was never a case of if, but when. Everyone has come at it, looking for an extra slice of the MAN(chester) pie and a great way to implement further growth in an existing base

Skipness One Echo 26th Jan 2018 08:14

Of course the main reason Monarch went down was over capacity leading to weak pricing in key markets. Roughly, what % of the additional capacity is a like for like replacement vs. something new?

chaps1954 26th Jan 2018 08:24

And we were always told bad management was a main cause over a number of years as
it seamed to wobble each year.

LAX_LHR 26th Jan 2018 08:32

There are some big increases on existing routes with Ryanair now.

Friday’s in August for example see 4 flights to Alicante, Faro is 17 weekly and AGP now 14 weekly.

DomyDom 26th Jan 2018 08:34

I must admit I'm surprised at the lack of coverage of the FR expansion in the MEN. Even the Liverpool Echo gave it a decent wright up.
New summer routes as Ryanair unveils $300m Manchester Airport expansion
Im sure it caught most people by surprise however. Perhaps there will be something in there tomorrow.

Dobbo_Dobbo 26th Jan 2018 09:35

Perhaps the MEN focused on this opinion piece from Andrew Cowan, with reference at the end to a team in China speaking to a number of airlines (plural). Good to see irons in the fire after the apparent wobble from HU.

What's the plan for terminal utilisation? T3 is going to be pretty un-fun during the first wave and for arrivals at the end of the day.

Logohu 26th Jan 2018 10:11

Speaking of Hainan they still only selling 4x weekly A333 in summer which is a big climb down from last summer if final. Or is there more to come ?

Dobbo_Dobbo 26th Jan 2018 10:45

I believe its daily for 4 months - can't remember exactly. June /July to end September/October.

I suppose if new carriers enter the market it will cannibalise their loads, but it's been quiet on that front for some time (until recently).

LAX_LHR 26th Jan 2018 21:14

Some of the increases for Ryanair:

Palma- from 14 to 17 weekly (3 daily Tu/Th/Su)

Lisbon- from 5 to 6 weekly
Ibiza- from 7 to 8 weekly
Faro- from 14 to 17 weekly (3 daily Tu/Thu/Sun)
Bologna- from 3 to 5 weekly

Runcorn Bridge 27th Jan 2018 16:02

All they need now is pilots to fly them.........:hmm:

chaps1954 27th Jan 2018 17:05
