Looks like Jet2 have sent two B733 'rescue' aircraft. LS272A due back at 22.00 and LS272B due 22.30.

Sub charters

On the one hand I want to congratulate Jet 2 for keeping the show on the road & not having to cancel services. However, over the last week or so they have had numerous diversions & had to employ the services of Air Italy, Germania, Avion, Euro Atlantic, Air Explore, Strategic, Hi Fly, Baby & probably others too.

How sustainable is it for a loco to maintain this level of sub chartering ?

Even PM must be questioning the cost effectiveness of keeping an elderly fleet going. Or maybe this level of sub chartering has already been factored into the operation, as the airframes / leases are so cheap (?)

Jet 2 is a great Northern based airline, is it time that they switched to some more modern aircraft with less reliability issues?

wawkrk 14th Aug 2012 08:45

Well Jet2's latest Boeing 757-200WL, G-LSAN operated it's first revenue service this morning doing the EXS271 from Leeds to Alicante. The bad news is that it only got halfway and then diverted into Paris-Cdg for some reason.

Cracked windscreen, 2 egineers flew to Paris with spare and fixed it.

I came back to ema from cfu on white airways cs-tqv on 13/8 which jet2 aircraft was it that went tech

righthandrule 14th Aug 2012 20:40

The only aircraft that is "tech" is G-LSAH after its pressurisation problem last week. The White A310 and Germania B737 have been subbed in to cover for G-GDFH and G-LSAN which were both late entering service for several reasons. G-CELZ is on its C-check and is being covered by Avion Express/Cosmo at LBA. There have been the odd tech aircraft over the last month that have seen the one off day charters such as Air Italy, EuroAtlantic and Hello Airlines.

It's not really been that fact that the fleet has been unreliable, because compared to last year those aircraft have worked faultlessly. It's more a case of bad luck with the new aircraft, which had maintenance delays and contractual agreement issues which have been the main cause for the subcharters.

LBIA 14th Aug 2012 21:55

Boeing 757-200, G-LSAM has replaced the leased White Air, Airbus A310 at East Midlands this evening. Leeds based Boeing 757-200, G-LSAH had a test flight this morning and should be back in service tomorrow along with the Boeing 757-200, G-LSAN. Boeing 737-300, G-GDFH has now also entered service.

The Cosmo Airlines, A320 departed on Sunday evening while Avion Express, A319 should leave in a few days time but it's currently covering Boeing 737-300, G-CELK which is having some work done to it at Multiflight. The Germania, B737-700 will remain on lease based at Leeds until September.

I understand Boeing 737-300QC, G-CELZ will return to Leeds tomorrow afternoon from Budapest after having its c-check complete and should return to Edinburgh tomorrow evening. Meanwhile Boeing 737-300QC, G-CELP is the next aircraft on the list that's due to go to Budapest for a c-check

Budapest or Belgrade?

LBIA 15th Aug 2012 08:48

Yep G-CELZ as had her c-check done by a company based in Budapest after they stopped using Belgrade based JAT Tehnika after the balls up they made with G-GDFH.

Hi guys, new to this kind of stuff so please bear with me a bit!

I have a couple of questions some of you may know the answers to:

1. I regularly see EXS001A, EXS001B and other callsigns like EXS031, EXS033M and EXS034M on flightradar and I just wondered what flights they are, are they freight or mail or something else? I know EXS001A & B is from BFS to EMA and G-GDFE operates nearly every flight but i just don't know what the others are?!

2. I live in Blackpool and would like to confirm which 733's are based here. It used to be G-CELJ and G-CELK but recently its been G-CELS and sometimes G-GDFE. Does anyone know if it definitely is LJ and LK?

3. How does Jet2 organise which aircraft to put on which flight? I know the 757's need to go on the longer routes but how do they decide which particular aircraft to put on which route?

thanks guys

Max

Two main points airlines consider:
Matching capacity with demand.
Aircraft have different ranges so as you said longer routes may require larger aircraft.

Chitty 26th Aug 2012 08:51

hi cobhc jet2 have G-CELJ and G-CELC based at blackpool at the moment . G-GDFE does fly into blackpool but its doing the friday flight from and to belfast as the friday flight is done by a belfast based aircraft . the other flights u see are corgo flights which jet2 do on an everning

COBHC 27th Aug 2012 22:08

thanks chitty!

is there any way i could have found that info out myself on a website or something or do you just know where the aircraft are based?

LPFR 28th Aug 2012 03:10

Hi COBHC

If you don't work for the airline, there's an easy way to check online where it's based. Go to Flightradar24, write down the registration of the aircraft and it will show you it's last flights. It will be pretty obvious to notice where it's been performing its last flights from!

EXS001, 005, 012, 014, 017 as well as NPT004, 027, 028, 031 all work Royal Mail out of EMA, some come in once per night, some come in twice

Also, has anyone flown one of the 757s (either as pax or as cabin crew) that can pass helpful comment on row 33?

I know it's an exit seat (As a 6'4" SLF, exit seats are important for me for the legroom) but I'm interested in the proximity of the WCs that are right in front of this row. I'm looking to be on a 4.5 hour flight - do these seats pick up 'odour' or substantial queues that might make me want to consider a 'standard' extra legroom seat up front or do they tend to remain 'pleasant' enough so as not to ruin my enjoyment of the flight??

dwshimoda 30th Aug 2012 19:27

Exit row...

Row 33 - "A" and "F" are not extra leg room, as the slide bustle intrudes into the space. There is traffic too and from the loos as you would expect, but by and large there isn't too much of an odour.

Hope this helps.
