STN's been under-served for quite a number of years, especially with regards to holiday destinations. The large presence of another airline I think has been long overdue and Jet2 have proven to be a great fit.

With regards to their competition I think it's quite broad... arguably FR, EZY, MT and TOM at STN but also will certainly be attracting passengers from LGW, LTN and SEN to some degree perhaps from various carriers.

I must say though for EZY their backward movement at STN appears to be back-firing slightly. Would not have been nearly as lucrative for Jet2 had EZY not moved so many routes and aircraft away.

Is the aircraft still grounded in Frankfurt?
Thanks in advance

Quick question:

Flying Jet2 fir the first time stansted-Reus. They are telling me I can't check in online because all the online check in slots are taken and I must check in at stansted.

Customer services say for security 20 passages per flight must check in this way.

Is this new or a Jet2 thing? Never had this with Ryanair or EasyJet out of stansted. It's a massive pita and frankly it will mean I might choose FR in the future if I had a choice.

Not sure about that, but if that's what they say then.....

What I do know is that they don't allow the whole aeroplane to be checked in online, not sure why but there will be a good reason, so I can only assume that you have missed out on the online check in by leaving it too late. If the check in process is as well organised at STN as it is at the other bases then you won't have any issues, you'll be done in a few mins and will have had your first taste of the Jet2 experience which, all being well, will make you change your mind about ever travelling with Valdermort Airlines (FR) again.

Hope you are right JFP:ok:..we`ll be putting your theory to the test later next month out to FUE and be able to compare to the excellent service at LBA

It's to allow those passengers who opted and paid for airport check-in to check in at the airport and still be able to get get seats together. Jet2 holiday passengers get airport check in as part of the package.

Thomson and Thomas Cook have the same sorta policy.

Don't worry about it. The Jet2 check in operation is super slick. There's really no need to check in online.

I've flown with them for years and have never queued for more than 5 minutes at check in.

You'll never fly Ryanair again after experiencing Jet2. It's like comparing a punctured unicycle with a Ferrari.

A new base on the cards perhaps? Ad was swiftly taken down though, so maybe someone jumped the gun?

In the advertisement they say they will be flying from nine UK bases in 2018. I thought they were already flying from nine (BFS, BHX, EMA, EDI, GLA, LBA, STN, MAN, NCL) which would discount a new base in 2018.

southside bobby 3rd Aug 2017 19:29

Tho.........EMA,STN & MAN are MAG owned together with....BOH......When EXS were setting up/announcing STN they seemed to be behind with the number of bases in some blurb I half recall...

Spot on DavidSheperd JET2 check in at MAN is first class, plenty of very friendly staff to set you off on your way with a smile.
Cheers Sam

GLAinsider 3rd Aug 2017 21:42

The obvious new bases will be DUB and either BRS or CWL. Jet2holidays are not yet geared up for billing in Euro which will be a problem for DUB but package holidays are hugely popular in ROI and since the demise of Budget that market is desperate for a strong player.

Dublin, non starter with the great unknown that is Brexit I would have thought.

I'll admit that i'm biased because I sell their holidays and my customers love them as much as I do. But on every single occasion that I've flown with them personally, it's been an absolute pleasure. (except from Leeds, but that's to do with the god awful drive to get there, and the windy runway:p)

Flew recently with Jet2 Holidays from STN - Faro and it was a great experience. Checked in at STN as we had suitcases.

Bought the whole package including hotel, normally built the holiday myself and flew Derry - Faro with Ryanair but Ryanair dropped the route this year. As someone else said Jet2 is like a Rollsroyce and Ryanair a Skoda, the experience totally different.

Jet2 have a base in BFS but amazingly for the same holiday it was cheaper for 5 of us to fly Derry - STN return with Flybmi and stay overnight in the Stansted Raddison for the early Jet2 flight than fly to Faro from BFS with JET2

Welcome to the first year of operation, selling holidays cheaper to build a customer base.

GAZMO 4th Aug 2017 13:30

Maybe not johnney... Northern Ireland holiday time is in July (2nd and 3rd Week normally) therefore prices from BFS tend to be high.
English holidays tend to be August so you can get good deals as scodaman did hopping over to England first of all. Vice versa in August now some good flight pricing from NI at moment
Agree Jet2 provide great service, using them to PMI in a weeks time and looking forward to great service and flight.........apart from the current hassle with passport control in PMI, but that's outside Jet2 control

True Blue 4th Aug 2017 13:40

Maybe 15 years ago I flew all 6 of us to Stansted, then to Tfs, saved over a £1000 both times as opposed to flying direct from Bfs. Used same accommodation as I had priced from Bfs. Have also went via Bristol twice for all-inclusive to Turkey, again saved a fortune both times. Nothing new, has been this way for many years.

SWBKCB 4th Aug 2017 15:44

Flown EZY, RYR, Jet2 this year and apart from RYR's garish interior, struggle to tell the difference.

(and did I really read below that you pay to check in at the airport? I'm getting old....)
