So did the passengers get stranded in Rome that were stuck out there? Did they put an extra flight on for them to get home?

Jet2_738 7th May 2015 18:35

The airport is currently operating a reduced service, and passengers have been offered free transfers onto the next available flight. Load factors as far as I am aware were not full, and the only LS Flights affected according to the status page were todays and tommorows MAN Flights. Any pax out there should hopefully be loaded onto Saturday's return flight. It is a possibility that LS could put a 752 on the route on Saturday to allow extra passengers to get on, instead of the usual 733. :ok:

GAZMO 7th May 2015 19:18

BFS flight also cancelled, next one not until Sunday.......bit of a wait

LBIA 7th May 2015 19:42

Wasn't just the Manchester service that was cancelled. Jet2 had to cancel all 5x UK services that were due into Rome Fiumicino today and 1 tomorrow

Todays cancelled flights

LS331 = LBA-FCO / LS332 = FCO-LBA (Next available flight Sunday 10th)
LS359 = BFS-FCO / LS360 = FCO-BFS (Next available flight Sunday 10th)

LS791 = MAN-FCO / LS792 = FCO-MAN (Next available flight Saturday 9th or Sunday 10th)
Tomorrow's cancellations

More bad news for Jet2.com this week as more pilots handed in their notice.
In other news, More bad news for <insert airline name here> this week as more pilots handed in their notice.

People leave for a variety of reasons and from a variety of airlines. I'm sure they (the airline and the pilots) will cope.

Jet2 4

Whilst I can't prove it, granted, my gut feeling is that the only compatible UK airline that has had more resignations in the last 12 months is Monarch, and that's because people thought they were going bust. Jet2 have a healthy balance sheet, yet still people jump ship en masse. Actions really do speak louder than words

mockingjay 8th May 2015 10:09

So what is so bad about it if people are moving on in such apparent numbers?

BA, EJ and MON are only taking TRd people in any number (a handful changing type on induction to BA). Can't imagine many people moving on to FR or Norwegian and for most the Middle East is a last resort.

So either people are making up the rumours that everyone is leaving or there's some unknown airline hiring Boeing pilots en masse.

Why are people moving on and where are they going?

Sean Dillon 8th May 2015 12:36

Spot on gorter...
And people ARE leaving for Ryanair...Thomson, BA, La Compagnie, Norwegian and The ME are all on the list...

No one is creating rumours about numbers leaving, there are those that remain on the strange world of "Planet Jet2" that believe the spin and head-in-sand management rubbish and defend it, but as far as large UK airlines go, Jet2 has a VERY big long-term problem that I'm not even sure John Harvey-Jones could handle!

In short, low quality, outrageously top-heavy management structure, majority share holder is a micro-manager and hates people and the business plan is a non-diverse, shallow, simple thing that is backed into a corner with a limited future. All adds up to worst terms & conditions in the UK, non-career environment with disgusting low-levels of people management.

They get everything they deserve and will suffer this summer...I'm afraid the damage is now done, there is a Ryanair type "Brickwall" approaching fast, which will hurt with nothing like the Ryanair cash reserves behind them.

gorter 8th May 2015 12:56

For me it was the constant roster changes that ruined any chance of any kind of personal life in the summer. On top of that the punitive "just culture" that meant most people spent more covering their arse than actually focussing on the job in hand. For others it was the prospect of being promoted out of base despite the fact that DEC's were being recruited in to their base. Despite guarantees that it wouldn't happen again it appears that it is again this year.

The constant fire fighting that was the roster disruption (not the fault of the crewing department but not helped either they certainly didn't care that your life was being thrown upside down again) meant I dreaded going to work because I really didn't want to see what was in store for me then. Calling friends/family whatever as soon as I reported "you know those plans we had, yeah I'm going to have to cancel again. Let's reschedule for November.

And yes people have gone to all of the airlines mentioned. Most have gone to BA, some to Thomson, a couple to the middle eastern airlines. I'd say about a quarter of my aquaintances that have left have gone to Ryanair.

Yes I will be worker a lot harder in my new employer but my roster is stable. I can actually plan a life outside of work. That'll do thanks.

Lord Spandex Masher 8th May 2015 13:13

So why weren't you able to plan a life on your days off at Jet2?

gorter 8th May 2015 13:15

Jet2 4

Because after 5 roster changes in 6 days from earlies to lates and back again I was too knackered in my 2 days off

Lord Spandex Masher 8th May 2015 13:15

How pathetic.

Jet2_738 8th May 2015 13:21

Yes I will be worker a lot harder in my new employer
Is that not the problem? People going into work to find a roster they aren't happy with, decide (rather immaturely) to not work hard, and get so fed up, they leave, for the 'better structured' (I say with great sarcasm) Ryanair?!? Jet2 are very much a seasonal airline - very busy in summer, not so in winter. I am sure there are many pilots who do, and would love to work at LS - Every day is different - you're not flying LBA-LHR 4-5 times a day like at BA. I grant that roster disruption may cause a few problems with life at home, but as I say, it makes everyday different, and not so 'Deja vu' like the others.

And Sean Dillion.... Just another disgruntled former employee...

gorter 8th May 2015 13:46

Sorry LSM I work to live. You seem to hang on the teat of jet2 to give you meaning. Sorry for wanting a life outside of work. But I think I know who most would consider pathetic.

And Jet2_738 if you ever have a family you will realise that any job is just that. The "variety" that jet2 give (Spain the canaries and the Greek Islands, variety, really?) wears very thin very quickly. Whether I fly to Alicante one day and TFS the next or 4 times LBA-LHR it's just a job. When your employer do their damnedest to disrupt your personal life you will see how quickly that "variety" wears thin.

If it was just me then I'd be the only one that has left. But I'm not am I. Not by a long shot.

And as a final example as to why I know I made the right choice. In flying hours wise I am working harder than ever. But I'm not even a tenth as knackered and I have a life outside of work. (Oh and the significant pay rise helped too)

Lord Spandex Masher 8th May 2015 13:53

I hang on the teat..? No idea what you mean.

I also work to live and I'm about as far removed from the alternative as you can get. Having roster changes on a working day does not disrupt your life unless you are stupid enough to plan something on a working day. If you are not yet aware of the nature of the business then more fool you. If you think you won't get daily disruption elsewhere then you are utterly naive.

That notwithstanding why didn't you have the balls to refuse such an obviously fatiguing roster, it sounds like it happened more than once too. Too tired for a beer but not too tired to go flying? That's working to live isn't it?!

Remember you won't report for duty if you're unfit.

Jet2_738: As nothing more than an enthusiast and someone who probably doesn't even work in this industry, your comments are irrelevant, pointless and lack any substance on the subject of any form of a professional pilots life.

Spandex: looking at your post history, are you not ex FlyBe? So in this age, Jet2 was your only chance of any sort of career advancement from a TP!? Desperate!

Been treated with respect in terms of how Jet2 treat my roster and ultimately my life, is what gorter is referring to, those in the 'Take me There' club, have generally yet to experience a 'quality' employer!

Lord Spandex Masher 8th May 2015 14:53

Well there you go Seany, you don't know everything.

Enjoy the M25 rat race (if of course you really are going to BA). Been there done that.

Sean Dillon 8th May 2015 15:32

Oh well!

Are you going to the Falcons game in Salford tomorrow? Got a ticket if you want one, my son can't make it? Drop me a PM if interested.
