Escape Lounge
Used the new lounge last week.
First class experience, sparkling receptionists, with a great area for working with WiFi. The f&b was far better than the old dismal lounge with hot snacks and a fully stocked and manned bar with waitress service. Excellent-all it needs now is some Business pax to add to the Premium Pass and pay leisure visitors. |
Ryanair Summer 2015
Quite a mixed bag at present and looking very interesting. Raises quite a few questions...
At present there is: - 31 routes - 9 based aircraft - 149 weekly return flights So... currently 31 routes on sale, however has been advised there will be 36 routes in total. So 5 routes missing, 1 of which we know will be Malta. Currently there's no flights uploaded on routes to: Almeria Cork Girona La Rochelle Reus Rhodes Riga Will be very disappointing if all these routes have been axed. If that is the case then we should expect four brand new routes (if that were to happen I'd guess LDY now it appears to be axed from BHX)... but I'm guessing (and hoping) that four routes from that list above are still not uploaded yet. More interestingly it appears to be 9 based aircraft through the entire summer season (April to October). That compares to 7 this summer except for August when there were 8. With the 9 aircraft there is still plenty of gaps in the schedule (which would allow for those missing routes) However there is a lot less flying done from inbound aircraft as the schedules currently stand. In fact, just 3 flights a week to Valencia are the only flights done by non EMA based aircraft (apart from some additional flights in August). So in all... Of the routes that have been uploaded, FR is looking very good from EMA next summer but the mystery of the missing routes means that currently there are less flights compared to this summer. |
FR-Girona
The Girona base is up for negotiation with FR playing hard ball so don't count on flights from EM to there next year. Three years ago there were 4 rotations a week from BHX to GRO, down to NIL this year and the same for 2015,the same could happen here.:{

RYR
The extra Ryanair unit goes some way to address the loss of the 2 Monarch aircraft.

Ryanair seems to have removed flights on ALL routes from Girona, Reus and also from Kos and Rhodes for S15, even those put on sale previously from other airports.
I kind of doubt they are going to stop flying from all 4 of those airports. There could well be some sort of negotiation going on for sure, good or bad??? Still doesn't explain the absence of Almeria, Cork, La Rochelle and Riga as flights to other destinations from those airports are on sale. Would be really surprised if Riga were axed though, always seemed quite popular and is up to 4x weekly this winter. |

Aer Lingus announce twice daily service to Dublin from 5 Feb.
Ryanair cutting frequency may not of being a good idea! |
This is great news. Was never sure why FR cut to just 1x daily. If they respond by going back up to 2x daily then we may end up with 4 daily flights to Dublin for a while.
|
FRatSTN,
It could be argued that it would be better if FR stayed at a single rotation to allow Aer Lingus to re-establish itself on the route, and possibly add a third daily flight in the future, but I doubt FR will be thinking along those lines? Anyway it is a very positive development for EMA. Balair |

Ryanair increases EMA - DUB back up to twice daily from TUES 27 JAN 2015. I dare say the reaction to EI.
Currently its set to go back to once daily though at the start of the Summer 2015 schedule, but still plenty of time for that to change I suppose... |
Quote - "Ryanair increases EMA - DUB back up to twice daily from TUES 27 JAN 2015"
Now there's a surprise - who would have expected that to happen....! Perhaps FR think EI's commitment to route development at EMA will be as strong (weak) as Flybe's and they will not need the extra rotation beyond the start of the Summer season? Seriously this will be a major blow to EI's hopes of making a success of this route, especially as they currently do not have an early morning rotation to cater for business travel. Balair |
Aberdeen
What happened to the flybe Aberdeen?
Announced in July 2014 once a day Monday to Friday from 27 October and then................No sign of it in the booking engine. On the positive side Intersky EMA - Berne Ski flight. Only appears to be six flights 17 Jan - 21 Feb but on the EMA website. Pete |

Cheers but I assume just another silent "drop" due to rescheduling. Mind you there have been several in the last few weeks across the network. Intersky - ATR or Dash 8? Whatever a neat addition to the schedule. Pete |
Seriously this will be a major blow to EI's hopes of making a success of this route, especially as they currently do not have an early morning rotation to cater for business travel. FR under cutting EI doesn't work as can be seen at BHX, MAN, GLA, EDI, BRS and LBA to name a few. Its a question of when will FR get fed up of losing money and dumping capacity on such routes. EI squeezed them massively since EIR commenced operations and FR are not even getting APD covered for many passengers. FR will pull back capacity after 6 months as they know EIR are going nowhere. Why didn't FR feed demand for 2 daily EMA-DUB isn't there this winter, its decisions like this that cost FR long term as yet again EIR step in and FR have no option but to respond. |
Flybe
One other change by Flybe is that EDI and JER flights are now operated by S20 equipment for the Winter season.

DHL
Further details of DHL's proposed expansion of its EMA hub have been included in an Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Report submitted to NWLDC.
The proposals include a further 27,000 sq. metre extension to the sorting facility and also a 7,900 sq. metre aircraft hangar. An illustration of the proposed development is included in the submission, which can be viewed in the Planning section of NWLDC's website. Balair |
