I knew that but will the a/c have BA written on the outside or BA Cityflyer?

Thanks

P.S. Why is it solely LGW crew?

Skipness One Echo 30th May 2009 12:25

It's nothing to do with BA CityFlyer and nothing has ever been externally marketed on the aircraft at LCY as such. I think the only clue is the crew name badges and cabin announcements on the RJ fleet.

LGW crew are qualified on the mini Airbuses and cheaper than the more expensive crews at LHR.

Euroboy39 31st May 2009 13:13

Oh, such drivel. MAN still has a link to NYC, so why complain? Only difference is that Delta and Continental have feed from these cities. If the traffic had been so wonderful (yeilds wise, not just loads) and the route entirely self-sustainable, then why would BA get rid of it. Obviously BA should be kicking themselves that they don't have an armchair CEO such as you.

Off Stand 31st May 2009 16:19

The route did make good money. However, once it was crewed by LHR crew (different allowances structure and over night accommodation required in MAN), the powers that be decided that the a/c could make more money elsewhere.
It's a shame as many of us at LHR liked operating those flights, passengers were lovely. Shame for the passengers too, less choice for them now.

MUFC_fan 31st May 2009 16:24

To be fair to them LGW-JFK was not a direct replacement of the MAN route as the 767 was dispatched to LHR and a 777 was brought across to fly the LGW route.

It is most likely that the LGW route was a slot filler but for BA, the 767 at LHR may have been the key as BA are currently downsizing a number of flights and it may have been more cost effective for the 767 on a route that the 777 from LHR.

Now you may be saying, send the 777 up to MAN and fly that until this winter but the same thing would have happened only 12 months later and with LGW having a 777 base it would have reduced costs as mentioned in the previous post.

Probably the most economical move for BA over a long period but has become pretty obvious that it was simply a slot filler ever since the LCY dream was thought up.

Someone mentioned above that EI are possibly going to operate services from LGW direct to JFK. I believe that this is the case. Watch this space on Fri, 5 June. Big announcements to be made by EI management in regards to many of their operations including their new LGW operation.

Aer Lingus are more likely to announce they are closing the LGW operation down...Flight International article suggests Aer Lingus are ready to scale back their Long Haul operation significantly.

Pilot ‘saves BA plane seconds from disaster’ : Heathrow Airport News Stories

Referring to the pilot's quick actions, he added: 'Our crews are trained extensively to deal with all eventualities.'
Well done to the BA skipper! Not that much press coverage but it does show that BA no how to train their pilots! Not the first time the pilots have had to think fast!:ok:

BA cabin crew ‘paid twice as much as Virgin’ : Heathrow Airport News Stories

And remember BA have short haul crew...

c.r.m what is it 11th Jun 2009 00:08

And Gatwick based crew that don't earn that in their wildest dreams!!!

Off Stand 11th Jun 2009 14:24

£29,900?? I wish that I was paid that figure per annum! I am on WW, full time on the 'new' (post 97) contract and I don't get paid anywhere near that figure.

Jus33 11th Jun 2009 19:32

Exactly Off-stand! £29,900!! I can assure anybody, my most recent P60 was certainly no where near than inflated amount!
If only it was that sort of money! Maybe if we all did a few months of Back to Back Naritas:ok: we might be closer to that figure!
Yes well I can dream!

MUFC_fan 12th Jun 2009 16:05

Getting a kicking on a fellow forum, BA are looking weaker by the day.

Surely a company would step forward to buy the firm if it went into administration? I am not saying that it will as I think the company will turn it around but if, theroretically, it did fall into this category, surely the slots alone would be enough to save the company?

BA to increase EBB from 3 to 5 Weekly

I have just found this article online.

Monitor Online | Business | British Airways increases flights into Uganda

The article says BA will increase flights to EBB from 3 to 5 per week. The flight will move from a night sector ex LHR to a day sector. The return will move from a day sector ex EBB to a night sector. The additional flights will operate on a Friday and Saturday.

Not updated on BA.COM yet but I know they haven't loaded their complete Winter 09/10 timetable yet.

Supersonic travel may return, minus boom - CNN.com

Put that on LCY-SNN-JFK and you would CERTAINLY have a winner!

And everybody else, the much quoted average figures of £29,900 for Cabin Crew and £107,100 for Flight Crew are not from BA but the CAA. They are published for all UK airlines and are not salary based. They show the "total cost of employment" which is made up of salary + allowances + pension contributions (employer and employee) + national insurance (again employer and employee) and "other staff costs" such as uniform issue.

Thus they are only valid for comparisons between airlines - unless you have the full breakdown they won't give you average salary figures.............

Flightrider 23rd Jun 2009 12:48

It's interesting that in the week where BA puts a new page on its website showing how "competitive" they are against easyJet and Ryanair, they also announce major route cuts on the services where they compete with either or both of them from Gatwick!!

Gatwick-Gibraltar, Malaga and Pisa moved to Heathrow this winter
Gatwick-Alicante, Madrid, Barcelona, Palma, Malta and Krakow all dropped

Every single one of those routes is operated by easyJet and so this must be fantastic news for them. Seriously bad news for Gatwick - this is the equivalent of another five aircraft going at least, presumably marking the return of the A319s to Heathrow.

LGW_08R 23rd Jun 2009 13:38

I had seen this an hour or so back and hadn't realized all are EZY routes too! What sort of frequency do easyJet serve KRK on?

Seljuk22 23rd Jun 2009 14:07

EZY LGW-KRK daily

What will happen to the slots BA left at LGW?
