Thank you MUFC fan for that data.

It illustrates my point, BA needs about stg 24 Million of revenue per day to achieve its past financial stability. This operation ex LCY assuming a 80% load factor and a round trip fare of circa stg 3K is going to raise stg 150K per day.
Thats only about .6% of the daily revenue the airline needs. WW is not crying wolf but is his strategy right??

DutchBird-757 5th Jul 2009 16:50

I could tell you info on the LCY-JFK-LCY sale that would absolutely blow your mind! Obviously I'm not gonna due to confidentiality for obivous reasons.

CabinCrewe 5th Jul 2009 17:53

Why bother mention it then if you cant verify it...?

BA1402 LHR-MAN A321

SDT: 18:00
ADT: 18:32

SAT: 19:05
AAT: 18:59

27 minutes?! From LHR to MAN?! Is this usual?! I have done BLK-STN in that time on a weekday but BLK is straight out etc. but is this normal for a BA shuttle flight? Only at the weekend?

Flightrider 5th Jul 2009 18:36

Quite possible. I did LHR-LBA in a British Midland DC9 some years ago in 26 minutes block time, 22 minutes flight time on a Saturday evening. I guess the same is still possible nowadays at the right time of day.

MUFC_fan 5th Jul 2009 18:41

Not bad at all considering it is LHR and MAN - two large airspaces.

Will they be able to make a full service - surely they wouldn't even have time to serve drinks!

Skipness One Echo 5th Jul 2009 18:46

The block times and the flying times are two different species. Half the flying time on some LHR short haul can be spent taxi-ing in the departure queue or circling Bovingdon......

Can we have another runway please Mr Cameron? PLEASE?!?!?!

MUFC_fan 5th Jul 2009 18:50

Oh I know block time is something completely different, as I say I have done it before in 30 minutes with a block of 55. Ryanair seem to extend their scheduled times, which I am sure is what helps their on time performance, added to the small airport etc.

Anyway, I just thought 27 minutes in the two biggest airspaces in the UK (All London airports and Manchester, Liverpool etc.) I thought it may have taken slightly longer. It look nearly as long from taxi (18:11) to take-off (18:32)!:}

gps117 6th Jul 2009 21:26

shuttle

it isn't unusual to have a flight time of 25 - 30 mins at the weekend.

And yes we can serve 180 people wih sandwiches, drinks, tea and coffee in that time.

many a time spent securing the cabin as the stockport pyramid goes under the left wing!!

In 1968, 41 years ago, the standard schedule time (ie block time plus all your contingency etc) between Heathrow and Liverpool was 40 minutes, on a British Eagle One-Eleven. BEA One-Elevens to Manchester were the same. What a step backwards to nowadays, schedule of 65 minutes and for ever creeping upwards.

BA Ground 3 x 744 for W10

In the latest release of figures for June. They mention grounding 3 x 744 in winter 2010.Does anybody know if this in addition to the 8 already announced or are they part of that number.

cornishsimon 7th Jul 2009 10:38

with the 744's being grounded you have to keep in mind that 4 new 772's are in the process of entering service and they start getting 773's next year i understand.
The grounding of 744's i expect is part of the aim to downscale the amount of seats and to fly routes with more fuel efficient aircraft.

You have to remember that there are far more aircraft in the sky now a days which makes the journey more complicated, even over 200 miles.

And I see from there, that even operating via Chester (EG704 Mon-Fri) it still only took 1h20m LHR-LPL ..... on a Viscount!

Bring back Starways - All is forgiven!

mickyman 7th Jul 2009 22:31

Further to your 27 minute flight I would just like
to add that I flew LHR-MAN on 6/7 in just over
30 mins.
The problem with this flight was that I spent 45
minutes sat on the aircraft at the gate and a further
25 minutes taxiing - bad weather deviations etc.
The four trolley dash for service was ok but because
of predicted turb no hot drinks!

I have also flown the same route in a BMI penciljet
in under 30 mins.

I thought the 747 groundings announced recently were additional ones (i.e., on top of those grounded this last winter).

WST527 9th Jul 2009 09:54

cornishsimon

yes looks like your correct. 3 x 773's due in late summer 2010, so looks like straight swap 3x773 for 3 x 744.

MUFC_fan 9th Jul 2009 14:17

What will the seating config. be on the 77W? Will it be an increase or decrease in capacity?

Thanks.

BA ‘to accept 50:50 Iberia merger split’ : Heathrow Airport News Stories

This may be my bias side coming out but for BA's HQ to be based in Madrid will be terrible.

How can you base the airline in Madrid opposed to the world business hub?

What are the benefits? Thanks.
