An airline that will never get off the ground and an airport that isn't going to reopen. It's a good fit in that sense, at least.

Fuel farm being removed now.

A council official was noted on LinkedIn a couple of weeks ago stating it was pretty much game over. The post has since been removed however.

2Excel are now firmly based in Hangar 3 at Southend. G-OSRB is there now and G-OSRA will head there after C check at Lasham. Seems like it is their new permanent home.

A good friend of mind still works at 2Excel in Doncaster. They'd been biding their time in the hope the airport may reopen, however their management now give this as a less than 10% chance of happening. And thus, have now found a permanent home at Southend.

I have to laugh at the likes of Mark Chadwick. The guy really is a moron.

From the very begining I only give it a 10% chance at the most for reopening and that been slipping down since.

I don't normally agree with Timmy. Will make an exception this time!

That is an interesting comment. Sticking to the UK, can anyone help with a name or two?

Manston and Plymouth are the obvious ones but to a certain extent you could include Blackpool but the list now includes Doncaster.

Is Newquay an example of an airport that closed and reopened ? Or maybe Southend ? Waterford (assuming it really does reopen) ?

Think we need to define our terms. Blackpool has never shut - airline services have come and gone. Finningley transitioned from a military airfield to a civil airport. Same for Newquay?

Ignoring Covid closures

Finningley did close. It was not a transition.

But it wasn't an airport when it closed. It was a military base.

Airfields in general are desirable spaces - especially in England - all that land, flat (-ish), reasonably well drained - just right for building on

Racecourses are similar and then golf courses
