Ryanair new aircraft will start arriving en mass in 2024, thereby you have had to build up demand in 2023 and a smaller than 2019 but normalish summer season in 2022.
Govt restrictions are only as good if people obey them.

Helipixman - I don't share your pessimism. My feeling is that there will be a limited return to travel this summer, but with severe constraints.
Such as:
having proof of vaccination
only to specific countries/regions
possibly requiring quarantine on return
I certainly hope this is the case for the sake of those whose livelihoods depend on it.

Money was lent to UK Ltd company NOT to an overseas entity. What Wizzair UK Ltd do with that cash is up to then but UK Govt will lend to UK entity first as lending to Hungarian based company they have zero recourse for repayment.

So you think the government handed over the equivalent of £30m per aircraft to Wizz U.K. yeah right. This was established here months ago that the money went to the parent company.

I completely agree with you and hope it does get back to some kind of normal. Are the Government/NHS going to give people a Vaccination passport ? I remember back in the sixties getting vaccinations and my passport was stamped ! Then if the UK are going to require some form of Quarantine on return from holiday, what if the country you are travelling to do the same - will it be worth going, then add in the probable tests/costs also required for entry. Not much will be going in favour of the travel industry and how much help will they get ? Personally I have stood by TUI and they have been good with my booking and I do not want a refund, willing to leave my money with them hoping they survive and I can travel, 2021 maybe 2022 maybe who knows ?

UK Govt would have paid money into UK bank account held by Wizzair UK Ltd. Security would have been a cross company guarantee by Wizzair Holding company and a floating charge on asserts. Bank accoun controlled by Treasury where they located but paying it into UK bank account means UK Govt would have a call first against bank account and secondly against the guarantee. Ultimarely AOC is the security UK have.

And the parent company likely meets the requirements of ''the company generates significant revenues in the UK, serves a large number of customers in the UK or has a number of operating sites in the UK. ''

It got the money as it traded on the London Stock Exchange not because of its U.K. operation. If that is untrue please provide the evidence rather than putting forward an opinion. Virgin by the way did not get a penny despite its U.K. operations and being a British airline

So despite the so far impressive roll out of the vaccine government advice is not to book a foreign holiday this summer.
There’s clearly no vaccination certification scheme and leisure travel will remain a no-no until Covid figures come down to an acceptable risk level (whatever that is).
So this summer will see no more than green shoots at best.
Maybe winter demand will surprise us all.

If the story is in the Mail it's highly dubious for all sorts of reasons.
Once the vaccines have been rolled out for the vulnerable proportion of the population I can see lockdown measures being lifted gradually, probably from early April. I suspect that subject to a vaccination certification process being in place (Spain and Greece are pushing heavily for this) there is a good chance that services within Europe will resume from Easter. It will not be full throttle but we will have a summer season and it will be the start of the recovery. I think there are good reasons to be optimistic.

Proof would be great, but AFAIK there isn't even reasonably good circumstantial evidence that any of the main vaccines lead to non-transmission. At the moment, we have only plausible theories

Advisers are saying nobody should be booking summer holidays - just another nail in the Leisure/Travel industries coffin.
I know in the early days of the pandemic we were told that the virus was not affected by hot or cold ? Well it seems to thrive in the winter months. Seems like it is going to be similar to the Flu, maybe we just have to live with it in the winter and let summers go ahead as we all really want. Think it is here to stay, flu has never completely gone away and we all live with that ?

I say that because if 50,000 plus are seemingly getting infected each day according to UK Government statistics, not all 50,000 of those daily infections are ending up in hospital. Our travel industry needs help and needs to SURVIVE and all those employed in it.

Meanwhile the ABTA chief, an expert in his field, is saying it is too early for politicians to make a call on summer holidays.
I'll stick to the advice coming from the people who know their field, rather then the likes of Matt Hancock, Grant Shapps et al.
