Sarah ,
The way I read it, saying Manchester Airport attending Asia routes conference in China. That is different from the recent World Routes Conference
Route development guys certainly eat a lot of cake , so many of these sort of events each year.
What tends to happen (so Im told by an ex BHX route guy)..its a bit like speed dating..
Each airport gets a small time slot with airlines they are interested in ,and try and sell their airport in that time frame allowed, before the next airport does the same, and so on.
A pretty tough environment , but plenty of cake at each desk
Nigel

These route conferences are more about laying down the initial foundations for discussions between airlines and airports. The main work is done after the conference is over. As Nigel said, its mainly a 'spped dating' format, with nice stands and visuals to entice the airlines in.
The reason the article starts Manchester, UK (like many articles published by routes online) is down to the fact Routes is a Manchester based company.

It'll be nice to see it appear at MAN - any whisper if it's bringing an announcement with it? Appearing at LHR the other day was understandable as it will be operating into there later in the year, but as far as I know there are not even rumours that it will operate to MAN in the short to medium term? I guess they will appear eventually once the 767s are phased out over the next ?? years, but haven't heard of anything remotely imminent.
They have 2 now being used purely for training, not in commercial service yet I believe. Why did they pick MAN for a training flight? Probably because it's their alternate for LHR

CAA Provisional stats Feb.
Hong Kong showing 9,504 pax. which based on 32 flights means an average load of 297 or 87% LF.
Spanners, does this stack up and how was freight?
EK up 12% Average Load 412
EY up 33% Average Load 309
QR only up 3% (when did evening flights start?)
SQ up 10% Average Load 136
SV 6,777pax If 4 weekly for full month, average load 212.
US flights not so good but DL bucked the trend with a 10% increase.

Am I correct in thinking that the American east coast was effected by the weather in February and that this could have resulted in lower figures for the New York area?

Sholto Douglas, I'm sure there were some wx cancellations on New York flights this February due snow. It would certainly affect the figures unless there were a similar number of cancellations in Feb. 2014.

yes sounds about right, I was told 89%, freight is doing very well, believe 90T of baby foodstuff on recent flts.
Was told today not to expect a daily flt this year. Walk before running, also Zurich starts soon then Dusseldorf then Boston.

Thanks spanners. Great figures for Feb. but rather disappointing if a daily is already ruled out for next winter. I know some others may disagree but I think Hainan is looking increasingly unlikely, at least for this year, but a daily for CX would have been good compensation.
Amercian are sending in the B787 from Dallas tomorrow. Arrives 1200 and departs 1400.
It was supposed to be doing a ten day stint but that's been cancelled.

Turkish airlines
I have noticed recently that turkish airlines are becoming a major player and under cutting some of the the big hitters on price. Some of the fares from Manchester are amazingly cheap with Turkish opening up new destinations all the time. Turkish is going to start giving emirates, etihad, qatar and other airlines flying out of Manchester a run for the money. With the new third daily coming soon, expect even cheaper and more destinations available from Manchester especially central asia and south east asia. I'm thinking of holidaying in kyrgyzstan in june, the fare for rtn flight is only £285 from Manchester, 11 hours with a change in Istanbul, amazingly cheap. You can also stopover in istanbul for no extra charge. The Turkish airlines product is also very good and there will be a new hub airport bulit in Istanbul in the future. I have just seen a rtn fare from Manchester to Dubai in june for £238. That's seriously under cutting the meb3.

Bargain basement, i haven't seen these kind of fares around for years, wander how they can keep the price so low. The good thing is, this will create a price war and us the consumer will benefit and get better value for money.

Turkish Airlines
Perhaps the fares are low for a reason??
Their accident and incident stats don't make good reading, maybe cheap fares help them fill seats that they would otherwise not be able to.
You pays your money and you takes your choice, but I would personally pay more.
