Ryanair just announced 6 weekly MAN-FRA for W17. FRA to have 24 routes and 7 based.

Let the fares battle commence.

The rapid growth of Jet2 can only be at the expense of existing operators such Thomas Cook. I suspect they will focus on their longhaul holiday business, where they have less competition. It may also simply not be viable to set lease additional a/c for the peak season.

There may as well be a shortage of accommodation in Spain.

Lufthansa are not going to like that route announcement!

It's also surprising that most of Manchester's new Ryanair routes have come in the winter seasons now.

Last winter was 3 new routes (NUE/HAM/SXF)
This coming summer is 1 (NAP)
Next winter is already 3 (SVQ/CGN/FRA)

Obviously those new routes continued into Summer, but, Seems a good shift change to address the seasonal imbalance at MAN.

Ryanair's Frankfurt Winter 2017 schedule will deliver:
· 7 based aircraft
· 20 new routes: Athens (daily), Barcelona (daily), Brindisi (3 wkly), Catania (4), Glasgow (daily), Gran Canaria (2 wkly), Krakow (daily), Lanzarote (2 wkly), Lisbon (daily), London (2 daily), Madrid (daily), Manchester (6 wkly), Milan (daily), Pisa (3 wkly), Porto (daily), Seville (3 wkly), Tenerife (3), Toulouse (4), Valencia (daily) & Venice (daily)
· 24 routes in total incl. Alicante (3 wkly), Faro (3), Malaga (4) & Palma (4)
er, nope. I'm struggling to understand what deal was done on slots that pleased MOL and Fraport!

Thomas Cook reducing schedules for Summer 2017. Malaga gone and reductions on a number of other routes. Presuming a lack of aircraft? Anyone have any further info?

My understanding is that Jet2 are keeping to 15 based a/c as they had in S16 and not an increase to 17 as originally forecast, which doesn't sound like rapid expansion this year. Not sure whether those numbers include 'spare' a/c.

It could be that TCX are more focused on long haul growth with SFO startting May and CPT next winter.

On a different topic, the CAA stats for January are out. The overall increase in pax has already been reported at 17.7% but worth a look at the analysis if you get chance.

Just a couple of highlights from long haul going East::

CX showing 11,860 pax on what I reckon were 36 scheduled sectors. That is a 10% increase on the previous January, and unless anyone knows of additional flights operating works out as a LF of 96.9% which is remarkabale.

If all Hainan flights were A333s, their LF was 81.1%, higher if any were A332s. Respectable for winter I would have thought, although I appreciate at the end of the day it's yields that count.

With their all - A380 operation, EK's average load was 484, with pax in the month reaching 90,000. I don't know the config. of the morning flight, whether it's 2 class 615 seats or 3 class which is normally 517 seats.

LFs for EY and QR look to be in the high/middle 80's.

Thanks for all that info. Of course the start of Jet2 from BHX may have abstracted some PAX. Or it may be that the fall in the £ may eventually be feeding through into demand. We'll see.

Fair points inOban. It's quite probable that new flights from BHX can affect MAN at the margins with some overlap in catchment areas. And vice versa I suppose.

TCX Summer 2017

Thomas Cook announced last week that they are pursuing higher margin business and that will be at the expense of volume. Note Luton has already lost flights this year. That does fit with their long haul expansion, expect to see short haul trimmed.

January passenger statistics

The data below is based on the provisional report supplied by the Civil Aviation Authority:

Not the luckiest airport by any means. Decades ago, our reputation for good weather was second only to Prestwick. Now we seem to get more fog than LHR & LGW and not for the first time we were the only airport affected by snow today. And we have not been short of unusual incidents in recent years - a dog on the airfield comes to mind.

Arrivals board indicates 8 flights diverted away.

Makes you wonder why Ops didn't publish a temporarily reduced LDA based on exiting via B1 thus allowing some landings?

Yes, I wondered about that. Were both runways closed for a while or did they start to use R2 straightaway for landings? Given the number of diverts I was assuming the former.

A quick look at the timetable shows 32 departures per day most days of the week in the peak season. A Palma based aircraft will be operating Palma Manch Palma every day and doing two Palma Manch Palma rotations on some days.

The A330 is leased in to increase seats and an extra 75 will be operating every day instead of a 73.

Jet2 will also be larger aeroplanes so more seats available. No 733's this summer from MAN.

Crazy to think this route carried over 90,000 pax in one month, and that month being January in the depths of winter too. If EK continued to get 90,000 every month, then that's over 1m pax per year.

For on the first procure on the Mail link it seems there is still some light in the sky so it suggests it occurred a good few hours ago.
