Monarch will base an extra aircraft at Manchester next summer.

As well as the 3 new routes, Lisbon will go to 4 weekly, Rhodes 2 weekly and Barcelona 9 weekly.

All extra flights on sale tomorrow.

LAX-LHR,
I may be wrong, but you seem very keen to get folks to leave Manchester and spend their money elsewhere.
How many of the routes you gushingly enthuse about will bring tourists/customers to the North-West?
It's almost like a Sainsbury's manager trying to encourage customers to shop at TESCO?

Zooker,

I've read your post about 4 times over now, and I've genuinely got no idea what the issue is?

All I do is report new routes in general, I fail to see why that is an issue? This is a routes and airlines forum. This is a Manchester thread, and I am reporting new routes to/from Manchester. I fail to see where I am going so drastically wrong in your eyes!?

Is it not good to have a new based aircraft and routes providing jobs, tourism opportunities both ways, brings investment from the airline? Are people not allowed to be well traveled?

I would say what I am doing is more akin to being a manager of Sainsburys and advertising the services at sainsburys.

Either that or you have the wrong end of a very long stick? Should any new routes be kept secret, they fail and all of the benefits disappear? Is it because you work for Pontins in Prestatyn and all these new routes are nabbing your custom?

Perhaps LHR-LAX would be a more appropriate call-sign?

If there is anything in what Zooker was trying to say, I think it would be that new routes to European cities, bringing PAX for business or pleasure, without having to call in to London, are of wider economic benefit to The North than additional holiday flights taking people and their money out of the area.

Why the bickering

Why all this bickering? I am a genuine amateur interested in all things travel, especially airports and airlines and routes. I come on here to see the genuinely interesting information that many people put on but rarely post. I thank those, including LAX LHR, who always have interesting things to say. There is no need to 'diss' anyone for posting information. Please do not let this thread get into that.

Great to ZB continuing to expand at MAN with another based aircraft and the jobs it will bring. Zagreb is especially welcome as it is a long awaited link to another capital and I'm sure it do well for both business and leisure. Manchester is a major European city and direct links to other European capitals and cities is always welcome for tourism and business. Increased frequencies on existing routes is also welcome and the demand must be there otherwise they wouldn't provide the services. Great news 😃

I've reported him and I'll leave him to it
Good Grief, you told the teacher because he <didn't actually break the rules>? We all remember why this thread keeps getting closed right? We end up chatting about who said what to whom about trivia, a million words on local trains or another reason why LHR shouldn't be allowed to expand because it's "not fair".
Monarch to begin 3 weekly Stockholm from 28th April.
ZB3754/3755 on Thu/Fri/Sun
On the specific point, which has been lost amid the playground stuff, Monarch are opening some new routes which the more commercially aware may agree are a, shall we say an interesting choice? As a business, they're refocussing somewhat but I feel in danger of losing focus at the same time.

Going into a Scandy market against Norwegian or SAS is certainly out of the comfort zone IMHO. Anyone reckon they'll be in that market 18 months in?

Skipness,

Given our history, of course you would see nothing wrong in his posts (you used to think you were doing nothing wrong either), but, I'm sick of being singled out in the fashion he has, and you used to, purely because I post about new routes.

I fail to see how I'm offending anyone in what I do, and why I should be singled out in that way. It may seem like nothing to you, but clearly others have seen issue too given the comments.

In the past, replies to such comments ended up with me also being subject to time outs, but I refuse to get frozen from threads again purely because someone has needlessly taken issue to something I have harmlessly posted, and if that means just reporting the posts outright, then so be it.

Is the additional ZB based aircraft next year to replace the current SmartLynx frame on lease?

I don't think so, it's increasing to 9 based by the looks of things, probably an A321, as BHX will be running 3 737-800's next summer. Whether another leased aircraft will come in next year is another thing.

Could the Stockholm route be something to do with the cruise market?

I remember Monarch venturing into city destinations about 4 years ago. I certainly remember Milan - although MXP would have strong tourist demand. Are they going back to city break destinations?

Zagreb is very interesting. I guess people are looking into areas that aren't the costas or aren't Turkey/North Africa.

Quiet isn't it.

Agenda - pro-manchester Economics Conference in Manchester- Theme is China

9:40-10:00 Panel Session- Manchester - China the importance of travel and tourism
The connections with China form a huge and important part of the Manchester Airport Group Strategy. The Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong, the Hainan flight to Beijing, Etihad into Shanghai, more routes into Shanghai to follow.
and

10:20-10:40 To be announced
Finally PVG.....?

Every morning this week the airport station has been rammed with students arriving from Asia for fresher's week at NW universities. Especially on Monday when both Cathay and Hainan had flights. Also many off the Saudia this week too, I believe. There were literally hundreds queuing for rail tickets as I arrived for work.

Oman Air - mentioned on another forum that contracts are still in the process of being finalised but start date of 1 April holds. Nevertheless it would be reassuring to hear further confirmation and for tickets to go on sale. Perhaps the original announcement by Oman was premature as I'm not sure MAN has issued any press release about the route.

From memory, the flight numbers and times for the evening flights were also posted elsewhere.

Edit: the details given were WY 105 arr. MAN at 19.20; WY 106 dep. MAN 20.50.
