Virgin
This could sound stupid especially since Virgin are focussing on heading west but what about the possibility of a 4x weekly Dubai? The aircraft would still spend time on the ground but not as much and although lots of people connect to other destinations there is still a large number of people who for them Dubai is their final destination, and with a reputable company like Virgin, I'm sure seats would be filled, and it would provide some good competition for Emirates?

Emirates are due another upgrade and Thomson are giving package holidays to Dubai a go, so, that's the market surged up for a while yet. That said, Dubai is building up its reputation as a tourist hotspot in its own right, and other airlines manage to serve LHR-DXB just fine despite the soon to be 10 daily LON-DXB. MAN-DXB does have a lot of O&D according to Emirates press releases, so, maybe VS could tap into that.
Anything east with Virgin could either be India, filling the plane with DL connections ex-USA (DL do codeshare with Jet but the size of the market could also use VS at MAN/LHR). Failing that, a 1-2 weekly Male using Virgin Holidays to fill up most seats. Anything other than that I don't think we could see.

Not sure if something has been lost in translation or if Chinese whispers missed a sentence but I'd heard MAN - ATL would be gaining an additional 5 weekly flights. Didn't ask what days or if on VS or DL metal but the person I spoke to seemed to be impressed with the bullishness of their plans

VS: at MAN
Aside from the usual suspect North american routes, the only place I could see them make work is South Africa - solely because it is likely to have pretty strong demand and at the moment no competition.
The VS and TCX route tree from MAN are very similar and I expect one of the two to announce CPT within the next year or so.

The A340-600 last year operated 3 weekly LAS and sat on the ground at MAN for the 4 days it didn't run LAS. It seems the A330 is going to do the same this year.
Could pop up to GLA and do a few extra MCOs/CUN/BGI etcs

As it stands, no extra flights to utilise said A330 have been announced or added.
The easiest extra usage of the aircraft could be MAN-MCO 2nd flight on Mondays, or, ATL 2nd daily on all 4 days of non use.
To use the aircraft at GLA would need a positioning sector, and, the flight time to MCO/LAS/BGI (any likely contender for extra flights) would not be able to fit in.
One way to get an extra flight in could be MAN-LAS-GLA-MAN-LAS but 2 issues with this plan are that I'm sure I had read that Virgin have confirmed GLA-LAS has been dropped, so the fact the 2nd route from GLA is already gone isn't exactly a good omen.

With all this expansion at MAN, do you this could warrant Virgin opening a dedicated "Club House" at the airport?
While Im not not saying it has to be on the scale of Heathrow or Gatwick, I am surprised the airport does not already have one. As the likes of SFO and LAX have one and they are only serving two flights a day to LHR.
It would also offer Delta passengers on the JFK service, a place to go too.

Changing the subject, Saudia switch to B789's from today, with HZ-ARC down to do the honours. Two class config 24/274.
The Business cabin looks pretty flash, similar to QR's J cabin layout - but without the free flowing booze !!
As previously reported a 5th flight (on Wednesdays) is added from September

Come on now that's the worst spelling of Thomson I've seen yet, first of all its spelt incorrectly and secondly there has NEVER been a P in the name either, it amazes me how many times this long standing name is spelt incorrectly by so called aviation enthusiasts as well as the media!
Plus the company is also referred to by its corporate name as in TUI.

Nigel.
Thomson Dubai flights from LGW/MAN/BHX are now also selling traditional packages as well as the cruise. Will use the B767 from all bases. MAN/LGW will be up to 2 weekly, BHX 1 weekly from November-April.

Thomson will have their Thomson Celebration Cruise ship based in Dubai next winter. It can take around 1,200 passengers and will run one week cruises but bear in mind that some people may stay on for two weeks (different itineraries) and many may choose to do a cruise and then a hotel in Dubai.
Also note that I did think that Thomson were going to fly to DWC and not DXB adding that airport to MAN's destination list for the first time.
