"could someone tell me why Adria picked Southend rather than Stansted"
and why not ask the question in reverse - why fly to STN over SEN? for Adria the only advantage I can think of is it has a higher profile and may be better known to its customer base.

That's like the 3rd time a Blue Islands ATR42 operating the JER-LCY route has had to make an emergency landing at SEN in the last year or so.

AVIAREPS UK have been appointed to represent SkyWork Airlines as General Sales Agent for the UK with effect from 01 June 2015.
On May 21, 2015, AVIAREPS consolidated its global leadership role in tourism and airline representation following the acquisition of the UK-based AVIAREPS PLC. AVIAREPS’ own UK subsidiary - AVIACIRCLE Ltd, joined the merger and all entities now operate under the one corporate brand of AVIAREPS. The AVIAREPS Group is now responsible for more than a total of 250 clients internationally, and employ a total of 650 professionals across 55 offices located in 6 continents.

AVIAREPS UK - “We are very excited to take on this representation at this point in time of Skywork’s route development and strategic positioning in the UK market”.

SkyWork Airlines will offer a connection between London City Airport, on the one hand, and the Swiss industrial center of Basel and the Swiss capital of Bern, on the other. Service will start July 19, 2015, provided official authorizations and airport slots are granted on time.

SkyWork Airlines will cover the route between London and Basel-Bern with an early-morning flight Monday through Friday and an evening flight on Sunday. Passengers travelling to and from Bern will have a short stopover at EuroAirport Basel/Mulhouse. Starting August 31, 2015, SkyWork Airlines will operate flights on workdays at both ends of the day (morning and evening) as well as once a day on Saturday and on Sunday. The Bern-based carrier will use a Saab 2000 leased from Etihad Regional (Darwin) to service this route.

Swiss dropped its connection between Basel and London City last weekend. The Bern-based regional carrier SkyWork Airlines will now continue the tradition of a Swiss carrier connecting London City with Basel.

SkyWork Airlines currently flies directly from London Southend to Bern. The times in this timetable will be adjusted later to meet requirements.

Adria Airways

I know that it's said that no news is good news, but I'm not too sure that this applies to the Maribor route. Wasn't there supposed to be a decision on extending the route through the winter months by the end of May? Perhaps the decision's been made but an announcement, one way or the other, would be nice.

From what I have read from the launch day press releases and interviews, it seems a public announcement will be made at the end of June now. They are aiming for 70% load factor to continue the route, but apparently they are currently at 60% (taking into account future booking numbers).

Is that 60% on the A319 or on the CRJ-900? There's obviously a big difference between the two. I would suspect it's the latter, although they have used an A319 Monday, Tuesday and today whereas the A319 was scheduled only for Monday's launch flight.

Just having a quick look, one press release says that for the first three months of operation there will an average occupancy rate of 60%, with roughly 52 pax per flight on board the 86-seater CRJ900. Apparently 5,000 tickets have been sold so far. I think the A319 was purely for the first flight with the media attention. They also mention that if demand increases they are capable of putting on an A319 or A320 at short notice to support the demand.

Thanks for the additional information. I too thought the A319 was just for the inaugural flight PR but Tuesday's and today's flights are also A319s.

I would have thought someone at SEN could provide approximate pax numbers for this week's flights.

That is most certainly an error as BE6036 departed at 15:05, and later arrived at GRQ at 16:53 (local time).

I suppose if Adria are using the A319 more often in their schedules then that is a good thing.

Disappointing to learn that Scandinavian airline SAS has announced it will switch its Heathrow-Gothenburg service to Stansted.
Starting on October 26, SAS will operate 12 weekly flights using a Boeing 737-600 aircraft to London’s third busiest airport. I thought SEN would be one of them they are looking at.

Why would they want to if they have just picked Stansted for a route?

Exactly; no chance now. I just hope that the SEN management had tried to win them over.

That's all they can do. With Heathrow full it is still a 5 horse race with Gatwick, Southend, Luton, Stansted and City all looking for new business. I am sure Southend will be pushing as hard as any other airport and will have its successes.
