Could not have put it any better myself. How on earth people expected 18 routes to start simultaneously is beyond me, maybe three of four but to where - Florence , Cologne etc. Is not going to set the aviaton world on fire is it! Get real people please.

Have to agree with other posters, I fail to see there will be many, if any, routes announced for next summer and cannot think where the expected footfall will come from to make the route/s viable!

The Southend folk here are entitled to hope and dream. Jet 2 are starting from scratch with 23 new routes from Stansted so even though it might seem unlikely that Stobart can match their own hype with 18 routes they could do it with the right sort of equipment flying to airports once or twice a week.
The truth is no one knows at the moment and the wait is painful for those here that have been waiting for the second coming for what seems like years.

I'm surprised that so many people here think that the decision made by Stobart not to proceed with the Cityjet deal means, in reality, that "there isn't a viable plan B" under which the Flybe franchise will be expanded. I agree that 18 new routes for S2017 is extremely unlikely but I certainly wouldn't discount a substantial number being launched. I believe a viable Plan B does exist and probably has done for some time.
As far as the success rate for any such routes is concerned that is obviously impossible to predict but they may deliver a better yield in general under the Flybe brand rather than Cityjet in my opinion.

Echo puff piece
Laughable! That the Echo prints a PR puff piece as news is bad enough - it needs an "advertorial" heading surely? - but 25% increase of just about nothing is still just about nothing when it comes to business aircraft movements.

2,3,4,5 or 6 additional routes from Southend would be absolutely fantastic news from an airport that hasn't seen an increase in the number of destinations served for far too long. The problem is that everyone has been told there will be up to eighteen. 15 or 16 would probably temper the ire that Stobaphobics like to vent here, but single digits will be a disappointment for all - even though it really shouldn't be.

And that sort of fluff in the local rag is a completely harmless way of maintaining a local profile. When too much detail is offered (and you know what I'm talking about) they do themselves no favors.

Stobart wont have a plan B in place, anybody who has had dealings with them knows all to well that they are a reactive company not proactive, they have a history of making last minute decisions and wait for problems to arise then deal with them as appose to foreseeing problems and dealing with them before they become an issue. They will now have to look at jets which isn't going to be cheap but I will bet my wages that nothing happens in 2017. I hope I am wrong but I know how this company operates and it's not looking the best.

Given past performance's by SEN management a bit of wise advice, under estimate, over achieve!
Creating noise around consideration for up to 18 new routes will definitely become the final straw, if management fail to deliver to expectations.

Also, I don't subscribe to the notion that people will simply flock back to Flybe.
I think Flybe have damaged themselves by previously dropping SEN. Their in, out, here today, gone tomorrow stance is borderline corporate bi-polar disorder.
Plus if Flybe are the alleged so called Plan B solution, sticking ATRs at SEN isn't going to cut the mustard. Turbo props combined with a Flybe brand of supply isn't in my view going to achieve expectations, it's all very half ass'd at this stage, it's tiresome and uninspiring.

Unless the schedule has changed I think there were five spare slots for new flights. So if Murcia has two of them, there must be another route to come. Somewhere similarly sunny I'd imagine, Naples perhaps.
I really don't know why so many people are assuming that just because the fights will operate under the Flybe brand that automatically means they will all be operated by ATRs, or any other prop type for that matter.
In the eyes of Joe Public the Flybe brand at SEN is not "damaged" by route terminations a couple of years ago. They will simply look at what will be on offer in a week or so by Flybe from SEN and make their travel plans on that basis, not on what has happened before.

The MJV has indeed taken up two of the available five slots and I see today that an additional FAO flight has been added on a Wednesday, so that now leaves just two spare slots to fill. There was a statement from easyJet a few weeks ago that additional PMI and ALC flights would be going on sale for next summer.
