Pardon my ignorance, but I fail to understand why - apparently - Stobart instead of Cityjet is no big deal with regard to the promised expansion? Stobart's own ATRs can serve only a fraction of the destinations that SSJs could have served - and Stobart struggled to come up with sensible destinations when they started a couple of years ago and quickly axed half or so of the routes. Where do they reasonable expect to find new destinations if they have failed to keep more than one ATR busy over the past couple of years?

The answers will be provided soon or never. One cant imagine 6 new destinations yet alone up to 18 so let's wait and see.

I agree. ATRs could operate on routes such as Copenhagen, Cologne, Rotterdam but I suspect that flights to Malta, Corfu, Heraklion, Nice etc. have a greater chance of success. Having said that, I wouldn't have guessed that ATR flights to Rennes from SEN would have proved as successful as they have. It would be good to know the proportion of French nationals on those Rennes rotations.
At the moment Stobart must be searching for jetliners to lease.

Does STN have trains on a Sunday yet?
Of course it does. First STN express North bound is at 0400. South bound at 5.30.
It's late morning before Cross country services start.

Trains to Stansted
Or was Harry Wayfarers speaking tongue in cheek as nearly every Sunday there are no trains, just bus replacement services. Anyway, lets forget the trains as we don't want to incur the wrath of the moderator and get ourselves closed down.
New Routes
Until the recent Cityjet business many of us would have found it difficult not to wet our long johns at the thought of 2 or 3 new routes from SEN (remember Sea Air and the unworththy response to the bs they came out with). I'm all for ambition and I cannot wait for an anounncement concerning the 18. EIGHTEEN!!!
Go for it I say. In the words of the late, great Frank Sinatra: 'Flybe to the Moon in a Stobart ATR......................

With jets involved I don't think they would have a problem coming up with 18 routes. I agree if it was an all ATR operation it would be a big ask but there are some opportunities that weren't there last time if they are using one or two more of them. These would include Newquay which did just fine last time around if it has indeed been dropped from STN, Derry for which a PSO is/will be available, Dublin which wouldn't have the LCY conflict of interest now that BE have dropped that route, and Waterford which has lost all pax service.
Best not to talk about Waterford. It was a successful London route that was moved here by an impatient Stobart before the new terminal opened and it never recovered.
I did read that the new routes will start for the summer rather than the spring. One could speculate whether this was always the plan or the Flybe plan B plan

Isn't the most likely scenario that after the failed merger with WX Stobart will simply lease in some SSJs from them? If Stobart are really going to release the summer schedule next week and the WX deal fell through just two or so weeks ago, it would be quite an achievement if Stobart has been able to source an alternative provider of jet services during that short period.

Good to see a favourable article in the local press:

The Voice of Leigh - World is a much smaller place ? thanks to the airport | News | Leigh Times
Back in October there was a post (#3005) linking to a Bloomberg story which said that:
"Southend Airport .... will operate its own flights in a bid to demonstrate the viability of an expanded timetable to carriers frustrated by capacity curbs at the far bigger Heathrow and Gatwick bases. The services to cities in mainland Europe will employ planes from Southend's sister company Stobart Air ....."
The story was attributed to "company spokesman" Charlie Geller, Account Director of PR company Redleaf Polhill, and went on to say that Stobart Group had recently increased their stakes in Propius and Stobart Air thus giving them "more flexibility over its airline operation". No mention was made in the story of the then ongoing Cityjet/Stobart Air negotiations.
It seemed odd at the time but now looks more like outline news of Plan B was released, although you would not think they would deliberately have done so at that time.

My point was that it seems somewhat likely that Plan A was a fully-fledged merger with Cityjet and then operate SSJs of the merged company from SEN. And Plan B the use of the same planes by way of a lease deal with Cityjet, assuming that Stobart will also operate jet services. This also because I don't see a great number of airlines offering white label flying with 100-150 seaters in Europe and Cityjet is an obvious choice with more SSJs coming online and little plans published how they plan to utilize them.

Everyone is getting so overwhelmed with the prospect of 18 new routes from Southend where in reality it won't happen especially for next year, plan A has gone and there isn't really a viable plan B so everyone on here should get a reality check and accept it's not happening as it's just hyperbole but too many are taking it far to seriously and need to accept the truth rather than keep thinking about possible routes and aircraft because it's over now the Stobart deal is dead which is what these so called 18 destinations were based on, I'm a realist not a dreamer and even I can see its game over.
