Nick, I don't fawn over the incumbent managements decisions but that doesn't mean I'm anti Flybe (doesn't mean people should hold grudges either mind). Doesn't mean I'm going to view every tiny bit of Flybe news through Flybe issued rose tints. In fact in its current state most of the things happening at Flybe are necessary evils. That's the reality.
Like you suggest, the benefits of being a shareholder mean I want it to succeed.

the real point is that Flybe have a decent aircraft that suits their current operations and won't break the bank
Lots of airlines make money out of flying turbo-props and the cost benifits are significant - really importnat when you are flying to the sort of places they go to

Assuming that the financials add up, and only the BE management will know that at the present, this deal seems to offer them quite a lot of options and flexibility over the next few years.
The E175 is a great aircraft to fly on, but it can't be made to work on their wider network and they needed out of the previous commitments, so whether we like it or not, that was a pretty big box they needed to tick.
The release says they take on 24 additional Q400's, at an average of one per month, between March 2015 and 2017, whilst 21 are due to leave over a four year period. That suggests roughly an extra 13 Q400's will be active by March 2017. There are still a few active E195's to be replaced, so perhaps a minimum net increase of 8, over 2 years from March 2015, or one every three months, on average. The BE release says they will become the biggest Q400 operator in the World, and to do this, they need to add a net 8, to overhaul Horizon, so the numbers more or less add up.
However, they presumably have the possibility to extend the leases, or purchase outright, the departing frames, which they have just done with the five bought for the LCY expansion, so they could actually grow the Q400 fleet by anything between 3 and 24 frames, over the next four years depending on circumstances and opportunities?

Flybe loose to Blue Islands on Guernsey Southampton route
Flybe has announced that it will only operate Soton-GCI at weekends during October, then only one return flight a day from Nov, with a second on Sundays. This coincides with Blue introducing a fourth rotation on weekdays.
Tabs please !
The "voice of the customer" here.
We need competition. I have a choice of flying to Edinburgh from Exeter or Bristol on Monday. Sadly Flybe cannot compete on either cost or comfort so yet again, Easy are getting the business. I want a fast quiet aircraft where my bag fits in the overhead bin and a choice of supplier who can provide both.
The recent announcement suggests that things will not change anytime soon.

Deano, no I don't.
The right aircraft for the right route. Isn't that the latest rationale?
So, you've now got the right aircraft, Q400. (having just offloaded the wrong ones EMB). Remember a few posts previous where I was insulted for not agreeing that this was good news?
Now you're offloading the wrong routes (obviously SOU - Fraggle Rock - SOU isn't one of the right routes, with its current frequency anyway) and you're being left with the right routes and all of a sudden you're insulting me for agreeing that this is good news?
Make your mind up chaps. It seems like excessive noise and vibration can affect rational thought. It's ok though, sips fuel.
What say you CC?

Don't forget to take into account the ridiculously bad leasing deal when considering your answer. And we are actually getting 4 more jets for the record.

CC, I hope you're going to read my response instead of sticking your fingers in your eyes. Figuratively speaking of course.
First point - You still haven't shown me where I profess to being an expert...waiting...
It's a nonsensical question which is why it doesn't warrant an answer but...I wouldn't have any if that was the case. It would be bad business sense. Can't you see that?
You agreed that they were as described. Now you're changing your mind and calling it a fallacy. Why don't you get some hard facts about your new acquisitions then let us all know.
Goody for you but as a point of interest I have never suggested you did say it.
Anyway, we own some of them and lease some of them. Do you think the ones we do own were free?
Exactly what I've been implying from the start. Why is it ok if you say it but not me? Double standards.
You don't speak for everybody else, you know. Anyway why do you equate disagreement with attacking? There's a whiff of defensiveness coming out in your posts, unnecessarily.
Still not sarcasm chap. Cutting down on routes that don't work is the same as cutting down on aircraft that don't work. Don't you agree that this is fantastic news because it's allowing Flybe to recover and make a profit? I'm confused by your double standards, again.
You pay less for the aircraft so you can charge less but still make a profit. Simple business. I'm pretty hopeful that you didn't really need to ask me that question.

my comment was in response to someone else saying they were knackered out and old (which is a fallacy), so I then said if some dogs of Q400s is all we can afford then so be it.
show me where I said "knackered old Q400s"??? Oh yes, I didn't.
Anyway, we own some of them and lease some of them. Do you think the ones we do own were free?
I then said it would be fantastic if we were in a position to, or if our previous incompetent lot could've negotiated a lease deal that was fit for purpose.
It's far from double standards, we've sat back and watched your bull**** for years, I used to respect what you said on here, but over recent times, and I think I speak for the majority, we're sick of reading your nonsense and continued attack on your former employer so I'm standing up to it, if you think that's double standards then a) I won't lay awake tonight worrying about it, and b) that's your issue.
Your sarcasm is pathetic
how do you propose Flybe make money out of it without putting the price up

Who's overheated?
Flybe to temporarily scrap Southampton service - Guernsey News from ITV Channel Television - channelonline.tv
Running the route does not make financial sense. So surely getting rid of the route is good news?
The same as getting rid of aeroplanes that don't make financial sense.

FlyBE Guernsey service
Proposals to withdraw GCI service in Oct then run a reduced once a weekday service from Nov may be in breach of its licence which requires a twice a day service 364 days a year. Guernsey States spokesman refused to comment as an investigation was ongoing.
