PF, you are indeed correct, it was a nightmare for the ground staff, you couldn't see the damn thing! I worked for Air UK for many years and it was a happy place to be, you could tell though who were the ex BIA and Air Anglia Pilots! From memory I think that we used to refer to the ex Air Anglia base as 'RAF Norwich'! The BIA guys were in a different league, I remember fondly one particular Capt after hearing the 'Herald' criticised because of it's lack of capability saying that "we had CAT111 on the Herald" many comments from Management obviously, the response? "The aircraft didn't, but the Crews did"!!
Happy days indeed and sorry to highjack this thread.

195's
Are the 195's still in operation or is it just 175's and dash8 operating for flybe these days.
If 195's are still in operation where are they based and what routes do they fly on.
Thanks.

There are 4 left and they operate the following:
1 at BHX operating BHX-CDG as part of the Air France codeshare.
1 at EXT operating EXT-DUB, PMI, FAO, ALC, AGP
2 at SOU operating SOU-DUB, JER, PMI, FAO, ALC, AGP (only some flights to DUB and JER).
Unless anything has changed recently all are due to leave at the end of the summer.
Also flights ex. SOU are still not on sale past the start of January, can anyone shed any light on why this is the case?

Also, it seems SOU-AGP/ALC/FAO have all been extended and now end on the 2nd November. It is mentioned on their Facebook page and bookable on the website although it is not shown in the timetables yet.

195's
fjencl
Just to add to the other posts, BHX has two 195's operating at the weekend flying ALC, CDG and DUS however per the booking engine they are removed from service at BHX once BE3010 lands from Paris on Wednesday 11 June 2014 at 21.15.
Whether this is accurate I don't know but the seat-maps from Thursday onwards show 175's and DH8D's only at BHX. I suppose they might remain on standby.
It is a shame as they are great to fly on as a passenger and of course BHX-GLA was the first commercial flight of the 195 back in September 2006.
However the harsh commercial realities are there to be seen, BHX - EDI was once 6 x 195's a day and 1 x Dash 8 and now it is 3 x 175 and 4 x Dash 8 and they have barely lost any passengers on the route and fares on certain services have gone through the roof.
BHX-GLA I think is even showing increased passenger figures with the same amount of seat reduction and fares only slightly lower than EDI.

There will also be one e195 going on another wet lease to Helvetic Airlines based in Zurich.
A 175 is being replaced by a 195 for two months at bhx due to maintenance, this should be over July and August.

Thank you for the hint, I have found some 195 flights in August at BHX on MXP, CDG and PMI although I couldn't make sense of the schedule.
I wonder if Helvetic will use them to BHX or MAN it would certainly make sense. Do we know when this starts and for how long.

Flybe are back in profit
AIRLINE Flybe has returned to profitability following the implementation of a turnaround programme which included the loss of 500 jobs.
Announcing its final results for the year to March 31, the airline - one of Manchester's largest operators with 20 routes and up to 108 flights a day - reported profit before tax of £8.1m compared to last year’s loss of £41.1m.
It has also seen a 11.1% growth in revenue under management to £868.4m (2012/13: £781.5m). Group revenue of £620.5m was up by 1%.
In further good news the airline reported record passenger numbers and load factors in UK business and a 3.3% decrease in group operating costs (excluding restructuring) at £619.5m (2012/13: £640.9m)
There was a 6.9% increase in passenger numbers at 7.7m (2012/13: 7.2m) despite a 1.4% reduction in seat capacity. Flybe now has a 55.1% sector share of UK regional market (2012/13: 52.4%).
Chief executive Saad Hammad said: "We implemented a turnaround plan to stabilise the business and then successfully raised over £150m net to strengthen our balance sheet and drive sustainable profitable growth.
“The return to profitability is a great step forwards. This enables us to start implementing our twin-engine strategy of growing our UK branded business and our white label operations across Europe."

The EXT/SOU sun routes could be a good opportunity for Jet2 to expand their markets are gain a presence in the south of t'country, although they would need a strong marketing campaign as I doubt most typical punters would know of them particularly well.

FlyBe results
After a year of real pain for all, good to see that it was worth it and FlyBe turned in a profit. Seems like the new management have stopped it hitting the chocks and have got it back to a slightly better course. I hope the LCY venture pays off for them; whether you like purple or not, FBE are an important part of regional air connections in the UK today, and I for one as a regular onboard, find they deliver a valuable service.
Thanks to all those who took pain to help it survive. Lets hope things continue to improve and some folk can come back.
