Flybe weighs options for Exeter training academy and maintenance hub | Exeter Express and Echo
The above newspaper article mentions that the future of the airline's training academy and maintenance hub at Exeter will be made known later this year. There is some speculation that they might be sold off to a third party but that the operations would continue.
The article also contained comments from Flybe's chief commercial officer suggesting that Exeter's winter sun routes will be not be restored as they have been at Southampton when he said:
Although the planes are reasonably full to the sun destinations from Exeter, the prices people are paying aren’t big enough to sustain the operation, and that’s because our aircraft aren’t big enough.
The issue we have is there’s a strong sun market out of Bristol, so if we put another £20 or £30 on the fare a lot of people would go up to Bristol.

I think he means less powerful engines, as opposed to poorer ones. At least I hope so anyway. I wouldn't be too confident climbing on a plane with poor engines. The more welly you've got, the more fuel you burn.... usually. Personally, I'd love all aircraft to be overpowered, like the good ol' 757. Flying was more fun a few years ago. Not good in today's economy though.

I thought that the CEO had answered that question months ago, and repeated it to the BBC earlier this week. The strategy now is not to try and be "all things to all men" - hence the decision to concentrate the fleet around the DH4 and E70 types and a regional model - a strategy which is now paying dividends
Obviously you should "never say never" but it would really surprise me if the suddenly did a "U" turn and leased in 150 seaters.
So, do they focus on regional routes using their smaller aircraft or do they invest in larger aircraft and fly sun routes

With several E175s flying every day you would have to be some real dumb moron to worry yourself over my comment. If they were poor in that sense, those planes wouldn't be in the sky.
And yes, they may be lower rated but their range is better. There is no requirement to for a pay
