Even in Belfast it has been thougt as a very odd move as time and time again it has been shown as a route that just has no market at all.

Other city parings may just work but BHD 3 times a day looks like a money pit tbh. If it had been codeshare with somebody even BA well that may chamge things but point to point. Very thin chance of succes.

What's wrong with you all ? It's the new management that's thought of this - everything will be all right & the airline is well on the way to financial success. Together with the new purple colour scheme all of these innovations will be raging successes.
Oh ye of little faith ! It's as if you thought the old management (with ITS crackpot ideas) was still in place.

Can anyone give any details as to what the flight number BEBE41D would be?

Sitting in Southampton airport and that is top of the screen.

BEE 041D always used to be the number allocated to a positioning aircraft to either replaced an AOG or after having being repaired after having gone AOG.

Not sure you're right about the Inverness bit. Sure, there's quite a bit of bad feeling up here towards Flybe but the truth is we're now desperatley short of London seats. I think the INV - LCY route (at Inverness anyway) could prove to be quite popular.

Also, the general consesus of opinion towards Easy, amongst the business and tweedy brigade, is not unilaterally positive. I've a feeling many will welcome it with open wallets, even if it is on a Dash.

As an aside, INV - LGW was generally about 15 minutes longer on a Dash and it burnt just over half the fuel for ten less seats than the 175. I'm no accountant, but.......

The E175/Q400 cost debate is an interesting one. It's also not new. See this article from back in 2011 which summarises their thinking at the time.

Essentially flybe recognised that the E175 was naturally going to be more expensive to operate when they got them (as the comments above about fuel burn confirm), but they managed to reduce some costs (e.g. engine maintenance) and they also got a very good financing deal (via the Brazilian export credit agency) which meant they could buy the aircraft (and pay low interest rates for the loan) rather than leasing them.

Nice Pic

Would any of you like a Flybe Livery thread in the Spotters Corner like we've done with Monarch, Thomson & Thomas Cook? Might interest some of you

Outbreak of Flybe ads all around London City and Canary Wharf. As it is nearly six months to go to the first flight (is it not ?) seems a bit premature, given that much of LCY business gets booked just a few days before. The ads are more about positioning the name of the airline in minds, with the destinations just tacked on in a smaller font.

At least they are doing something and advertising even if it is early days. One of the biggest criticisms around route failures is marketing and a lack of advertising.

Flybe more Birmingham routes

According to BBC local news, Flybe will launch 8 new routes from Birmingham including Oslo and Hamburg and that some routes started this summer will continue this coming winter. Can't confirm on Flybe website yet maybe a press release will be made later today?
Daza

Managed to find daily Oslo (midday departure from Birmingham) and daily Hamburg (evening departure from Birmingham) Great news!

I think it's actually 2 new routes (Hamburg and Oslo as you rightly say), plus 6 routes extended to all-year round:

Did Ryanair not used to operated to Birmingham to Oslo Rygge? Anyway, good news, and hopefully this indicates that some of these new BHX routes are performing well - does anybody know how they're actually doing?

I believe they did, but it would be wrong to compare a Ryanair service to a typical "Ryanairport" miles away from the city it's supposed to serve, with no infrastructure, and no viable connections with a FlyBe business orientated service to a city's principal airport.

My gut feeling is that OSL will do well for them, and it's great to have an airline serving both the business and leisure traveler to, and just as importantly, from the Midlands.

If the much expanded BHX network proves to be a success, then I'd bet that Easyjet would wishing that with hindsight they had invested in the airport - but their loss is most certainly FlyBe and BHXs' gain.

I think it's true that Flybe are well placed to attract both leisure and business travellers in the Midlands - something similar to what easyJet do in London, BRS, MAN and EDI. Their choice of destinations from BHX do seem well chosen, with perhaps the exception of taking on carriers with larger aircraft on some sun routes. I guess time will tell how successful they are.

Having said that, it wouldn't take much for EZY to come in and take a piece of the pie themselves - they've already effectively driven BE out of LGW (I know there were other factors in play there too). If that did ever happen, it wouldn't be for at least a couple of years, as I believe because EZY's future fleet deployment is already fairly constrained.

Oslo

callumm92

Ryanair used to fly to Torp from Summer to 08 until the end of summer 2009.

Low fares with low loads (other than July and August) before it was pulled and no further explanation needed really - see below.

CAA Figures

SEPT 2008 2397 pax, average per flight 92 - 49% load factor
OCT 2008 2542 pax, average per flight 106 - 56%
NOV 2008 2457 pax , average per flight 95 - 50%
APR 2009 2890 pax, average per flight 116 - 61%
May 2009 2237 pax, average per flight 90 - 48%

Duo also operated it in winter 2003/4 (via Newcastle?)

CAA figures

NOV 183 pax, average 6 per flight, 12% based on a 48 seat CRJ
DEC 377 pax, average 13 per flight 28%
JAN 309 pax, average 8 per flight, 16%
FEB 524 pax, average 14 per flight, 29%
MAR 622 pax average 16 per flight , 32%
APR 447 pax, average 11 per flight, 24%

Not a great record and some would say flybe have their work cut out on this one but times have changed and I am sure they have researched it well.

I will post the April load factors on the BHX thread later and it indicates that the new routes are getting bottoms on seats but if they all paid the same fare as I did to Florence (even less when I got my £60 for been late) then yields might have been soft to start with.

It's a shame they don't seem to be bothering with SOU much these days.

No, not via Newcastle. BA Connect did OSL-NCL with EMB-145's, but they finished a couple of years earlier.

Back to the subject...
