I flew through Luton, to and from Zurich, first time for many years, using EZY and mid-term car park.

Parking experience was excellent, flight 40 mins late/on time coming back...going through the airport was pretty smooth both directions.

All in all quite a pleasant experience, my only comment being that the terminal is badly in need of modernisation and probable expansion if EZY are going to expand their offering. I can't really see how this can be done, given the space restrictions.

LY5029 Dep 13.50 Montreal-Mirabel

Anybody have any information about the above flight today?
Seems a strange destination as Mirabel doesn't take International flights as far as I am aware unless they are GA or cargo.(Dorval is still used)
It appears a one off but a bit curious that it's going to Montreals white elephant!

The aircraft - a Boeing 737-800 originated in Tel Aviv. It was on the Ben Gurion airport departure board so I would suggest it was carrying passengers and nothing to do with F1. Possibly a pit-stop though!

In previous years, Easyjet have begun putting summer flights on sale at the start of September in the previous year. Come back in about 3 months time is probably the best suggestion at the moment. If new routes are to be announced for a start date in S15, you may have to wait until later in autumn 2014 before they are publicised

Will Easyjet even increase, the deal was if the airport increases Easyjet will increase at the airport. If there do increase it will only be flights from Stansted which will be moved to Luton.

Wasn't there an implicit commitment in the recent easyJet deal to grow at Luton by 20% over the coming year with further growth dependent on improvements to the airports infrastructure?

I'm surprised it's taken easyjet this long to quite the Budapest route with Wizz being so dominant now. Makes sense to stop trying to compete and focus on other destinations

EasyJet giving up on a route it's been flying for years and letting its rival get a monopoly on it? Sounds familiar, couldn't have timed it better (See Stansted thread).

Little point in easyJet wasting resource on a route that clearly isn't working for them. Don't Wizz now have up something like 4 flights daily compared to easyJet's 4 flights per week to Budapest?

Better to focus their efforts on routes where they can make more of a mark. In the short term this freed up capacity may help to cover some of the new Copenhagen & Lyon flights being added in November. Hopefully we'll see more new routes, either moved from Stansted or brand new being added over the coming months & years that will deliver Luton with a greater breadth of destinations.

So why have EZY only just decided to axe the route when they have competed with W6 who fly on a much higher frequency for many years?

Either they have operated a route that hasn't performed too well for many years (given the competition by W6) and therefore should have been axed years ago OR they have tried to compete with W6 on a level they are never going to meet and have decided its time to pull the plug.

So EZY have axed their flights and effectively given a load of existing customers to W6 to fill the extra flights they've just added, plus giving them 100% share on the route. EZY may well be able to do better on other routes, but they have just allowed W6 to do even better on theirs, its worked wonders for FR down the road at STN.

Not sure I get the point you're making?

I guess easyJet hoped they could make Budapest work as there is clear demand for that route but Wizz continue to grow their operation and are a stronger brand in Hungary, so better to focus their resources elsewhere.

In simple terms:

W6 add a fourth daily flight

EZY drop their flights after being in direct competition with W6 for many years

The result is that the supply on the route has remained fairly unchanged

But now W6 have 100% share of the route and they don't need to stimulate any extra demand for their new flights, they can just take the passengers EZY had

I could just be a case of Wizz gaining enough brand recognition and having an attractive enough frequency for EZY passengers to start to take note and move over to Wizz. It is unlikely that EZY could be making much money operating so few flights with this much competition so the aircraft will probably be better utilised elsewhere.

There seems little point in easyJet sticking to a route which isn't profitable. They are a commercial business operating in a harsh environment after all and have to focus their resources where they'll achieve the best results.

Wizz will still have competition, albeit not from Luton but they won't have a monopoly on the London-Budapest route so I don't see a real issue. Also, there's every likelihood that Wizz will continue to increase capacity on the route, especially when their A321's arrive.

I'm using Wizz for the first time next week. Was just trying to check-in and they give three (expected) options of Priority boarding / Extra legroom / Reserve seat in front three rows.

Yet, the drop down menu only allows you to select the second and third items - the first does not appear anywhere. I only want the first option so it looks as if I can't choose it and tough luck?

Thanks.
