They tried Lodz and it didnīt work for some reason. As I understand it Krakow charges are expensive so they use Katowice which is not too far away.

Yup, Kaunus will not operate on a Monday which is why it isn't on my list.

Grrr

Just those flights alone could yield another 40,000 pax per year!

If they operate year-round at 80% loads, it would be over 70,000!

Kaunas flights are not additional capacity, they are at the expense of reduced frequency to Vilnius.

Wizzair to Kaunas is in response to Ryanair dropping Luton-Kaunas in favour of Luton-Vilnius.

Just to help with my curiosity during this (bloody boring rainy) Christmas day. Were there any "firsts" this year regarding 2015 flights that have never operated into the airport? Airline or Aircraft.

I can't recall if the Sukhoi Superjet paid a visit or not.

The only ones I can think of are:
Aegean A320 on a fiottball charter
Avanti Air with a Fokker 100
Freebird with a A320 and A321 connected with the Hungarian GP.
Most be other though I would think.
A notable first for destinations - airline wise - has got be Sochi for the Russian GP.

The airport normally closes for random hours during previous Christmas Days to match scheduled movements. This year it just stayed open.

As for firsts, Luton had its first scheduled A340 flights this year. I think the last one was a VIP flight.

You know I completely forgot about the HIFI A340! Good call.

Compton I think Aegean have been in before but not 100%.

Was the Avanti in recent weeks because I do recall seeing a white/blue Fokker 100 whos livery I did not recognise.

Predictions/Wishes for 2016

How about some predictions (or just total guesses and wishes) on new airlines and new routes for 2016 at Luton?

I'd like to see someone take on Athens again, also more flights to Scandinavia, how about EZY to Arlanda or perhaps WZ to Skavsta? It would also be great to see someone offer decent timings to Prague, again perhaps one for EZY? And a complete pipe dream, but the return of Isle of Man would be great

IOM is very nostalgic isnt it. From what I have read everywhere else it would not be worth re-opening the route.

I think more Scandinavia and more Italy must be in store. Ryanair operates a huge load of flights to Italy from STN yet Luton has hardly any. Bring back Palermo. Places like Bari, Genoa, Florence, Bologna and Cagliari could be given a shot. Trapani or Ragusa also on the island of Sicily. With the way things are going in the Middle East and the trouble in Turkey I expect tourism in Southern Italy will grow rapidly in the coming years.

Athens, Frankfurt, Seville, Toulouse, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki? Talinn.. a connection to Russia? Lviv in UKR? Tunis.. Aiming a bit higher Boston/Toronto when the likes of the A321 LR come into operation. I know I know, These are just suggestions not routes I am expecting.

Bit more controversial but how about Wizz Air using their A321 to Dubai ! Hopefully further routes from Spanish airlines who are offered tempting incentives through Aena, maybe Iberia Express or Iberia Regional ??

Nostalgic

With the management at both LGW and LHR claiming they need a new runway desperately due to their current runway movements almost reaching full capacity, and with them jointly claiming the runway issue is stagnating their growth to the Asian cities and economic growth for the UK as a whole, how about them transferring most of their European charter flights to LTN instead?

Luton with more charter flights would be most welcome and nostalgic.

robbie1973 - Be sure there are more profitable proven routes for the A321s

Lee Baker Street - if just TOM moved there charter operation from LGW, I think that would be a least 5 frames, where would you park them an which slots could they use in the morning from LTN?

A lot of infrastructure needs to be put in place before any thoughts if such things. Only W routes from other bases would work for the next couple of years.

Since Monarch have been expanding bases like Birmingham, I think they should start to grow their Luton base with routes like Madrid ( with some morning rotations), Lisbon (some evening rotations) and winter seasonal services to Geneva and Reykjavik to compete with EZY. They could also potentially launch a route to Prague with better timings to compete with Wizz.

I would also like to see easyJet expanding to new destinations from Luton like Tenerife-South, Krakow, Oslo, Stockholm. They could also maybe switch some routes over from STN like Asturias, Bilbao, Cagliari or and Ljubljana.

What are your thoughts?

You are of course correct that Wizz will deploy their aircraft on routes that will bring them the highest profit, it was just me getting carried away after eating to much turkey !
