BIRMINGHAM - 6
Not necessarily;Easter was in March last year.
However, significant may be the fall on KEF, possibly due to a combination of the "Trump effect" and the fall in the Sterling exchange rate. Substantial fall on EWR as well. I think generally, especially away from London, T/A travel is suffering tough time at the moment.
Interesting to see how thing pan out over the summer season.

According to my records 2016 had 36 flights at an average of 141 and 2017 had 32 flights at an average 145 so load factor in fact increased, so hopefully the profit increased or loss reduced and that they were just right-sizing for the route. Also I believe February was a record on the route 5776 as a single operator.
It is fair to say passenger wise BHX-KEF hasn't been stellar but seems to average consistently over 70% load factor most months although with AA departing and United reducing last winter I suppose some including me might have thought they would have gained.

Cobalt Air
Have cancelled 5 flights in May, with nothing showing until 24 May. Not sure if this is due to lack of aircraft or low bookings, I suspect the latter with a lot of capacity on 6 airlines to Cyprus during the quiet part of May
No flights are showing for winter 17/18

Another forum stating that ZB are considering BHX-ZAG for summer '18. Nice route if it comes off and interesting to see the ZB focus on cities as well as their traditional Med routes.

Totally useless outfit, I'll be surprised if they're still around in 12 months time.
They aren't a real airline, just a virtual carrier using a leased A.319 from apparently a well known Danish AOC holder.
If I were thinking of skiing in the Sion region I think I'd stick with the established carriers and endure the transfer from Geneva.

Powdair according to SOU thread are planning 4 x weekly A319 there! Still find it very strange that they would ignore BHX given that frequency from SOU and other much smaller airports chosen for ops.
I suppose I should be prepared to be surprised!

Sharm el Sheikh
Following advice from the Foreign Office Thomas Cook have cancelled their planned resumption of Sharm el Sheikh for both the upcoming winter season and summer 18.
In place of this they are launching a new weekly service from BHX (aswell as LGW) to Marsa Alam. Think this is the first time Marsa Alam has been served from BHX? I wonder if TOM will follow suit?

'Chaos' reported at Birmingham Airport as passengers complain of 300m queues - Birmingham Mail
Is this an everyday event or just a one off. Finally been put off Luton so traveling up to BHX next week for my flight instead. Should I leave earlier or just get there 2 hours before??

Spicejet looking at BHX?
Western Europe: SpiceJet eyes Rs 25,000 return fare to Western Europe on its proposed budget long haul flights - Times of India
Western Europe: SpiceJet eyes Rs 25,000 return fare to Western Europe on its proposed budget long haul flights - Times of India
"SpiceJet plans to have 350-380 seats on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It would be an all-economy class configuration with few select rows of SpiceMax seats offering extra leg room. Full service Air India has 256 seats on its Dreamliners with 18 in business class. (With this seating capacity) if we can cap return fares at levels of about Rs 25,000, many would prefer a European vacation when a domestic return ticket can cost the same during peak season," said another SpiceJet official, adding that the LCC is looking at London, Birmingham, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Zurich as the possible destinations. It will offer in flight entertainment on its flights from later this year.

Marsa Alam/Hamburg/Security
TOM did offer flights and holudays to Marsa Alam from BHX quite a few years ago - I think it was when they operated Taba and Luxor in addition to Sharm. However, the Marsa Alam flights as far as I know never operated, Taba operated just one season and Luxor was also withdrawn at same time after operating on and off for a few years.
Not surprised to see Hamburg taken up by BE and good to see this route return. Euro wings were just too big for this route with their switch to Airbus ops. I hope they're doing OK with loads on DUS and VIE?
Security - an area that needs a dressing urgently. I have never seen all machines on at once so I assume they're permanently understaffed? It's all well and good shouting about monthly % increases in pax but not if your facilities can't cope. It took me over 25 mins to get thru security on a Sat afternoon recently reason being there were only 3 scanners open!!! It would also help if pax actually got ready for security itself - it never ceases to amaze me how many people don't seem to know that belts, coats and jackets must come off, I pads, liquids etc be taken out of their bags, instead they get to the scanner and hold everyone up by doing it there and not when in the queue....

It is not just passengers who don't understand the security regulations.Airline staff are also not very good at preparing themselves for the security check.
Many times I have been held up by staff from many of BHX's most prominent Airlines,1or 2 that might surprise you.
Bearing in mind they probably have to through the same checks at most or all of the airports they go through,it is rather worrying that they can't get their act together.
