Taking up other interests suggest that he has probably decided to leave before he was pushed. The current expansion is untenable without some significant building work and
the airport needs to forget building another runway or a link to an HS2 station and build another terminal or some extra piers and an expanded arrivals hall.
Some high speed turn offs from the runway would improve the movement rate.
A new ground movement radar is not going to be much use when the airport has lost 50% of its all weather capability.

PK had previous spells at Luton and Bristol. I'm still unaware of a lasting legacy at either.

No lasting legacy left at brs. If I remember correct he just upped sticks and moved to bhx. Perhaps some one can confirm it.

U20 World Cup

I saw the U20 football World Cup winners landed at BHX yesterday. Was this due to proximity to St George's? Also does anybody know who they flew with back from South Korea?

MAN shop

There is a story in this morning's businessdesk.com about MAN pening a pop-up shop in the Great Western Arcade which says:-

"The shop highlights Manchester Airport’s US routes such as San Francisco, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Houston.
The cities can currently be reached from the UK only via London or Manchester."

With misinformation like this being published by a local news outfit, what hope have UA got for their EWR connecting flights?

Adding the word "directly" might have been helpful to avoid a total misrepresentation of the facts, but we are dealing with marketing people here, who long before Donald Trump invented the term have been past masters of "fake news" and half truths.

I'd say good for Manchester in being so enterprising in seeing an opportunity in taking on this short term opportunity - however I question it's positioning in terms of getting footfall, and footfall from the people they'd like to be talking to.

I think if I were BHX I'd be looking at similar opportunities in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Northampton, Stoke and the like - must be plenty of empty retail units in all those cities where BHX could promote their offering from outside the immediate West Midlands catchment.

Birmingham Airport has revealed May was another record breaking month with passenger figures showing over 1.2 million people travelled through the terminal – giving a 19.5% growth rate year on year.

In total 1,202,493 passengers flew through Birmingham – over 196,000 more than the same month in 2016.
The most significant rate of growth was on short haul services with an increase of 21.5% year on year. Long haul services saw a smaller 2.2% increase. May saw two bank holidays as well as school half term, this led to a rise in holiday bookings for city breaks and family holidays.
Jo Lloyd, Commercial Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “We are now celebrating our twenty seventh consecutive month of record breaking growth and this is our second million passenger month this year.
“Summer is fast approaching and we expect this one to be our busiest yet. We are investing heavily into the airport infrastructure to improve operational efficiency as the volume of passengers increase. Recent works have included the opening of a new premium set down car park just outside the terminal and the creation of new self-serve check in facilities.”
Scheduled traffic accounted for 90 per cent of the total, with charter passengers making up the remaining ten per cent.

Ohhhhh...

I am very out of the loop, as usually using Luton, but living in Northampton, I was hoping to look to Birmingham as my sanctuary to get away from the queues and cattle market experience!

Looks like I might be mistaken, and better the devil I know.

I went through BHX at Dubai on Sat 27 May and no queue at all at Security
Came back on Sun 4 June and 15 mins in passort control and 10 mins in baggage.
Wheels down to home in under an hour

I have used BHX a few times over the last 7 times. What a difference between my last visit and what happened last month. The whole departure experience was painful to see infront of my eyes. Ques for every shop going and not a seat in sight. Security wasn't nothing like reported and was through within 5-10 minutes which is good for the morning rush. Boarding down by gate 60 I believe was tragic. It was so outdated down there and the toilets were something I expect to see in WW2. Get the bus over to the plane and slight delay of putting bags on the plane and then departed 30 minutes later than scheduled.

As many will know who fly regularly from this airport that the amount of morning flights compared to about 2/3 years ago must have added another 2000 people to each hour from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock. The airport might start sliding down the rankings and could be down there with LTN and STN. One thing that does need addressing is seating and putting the correct amount of staff in shops. WHSmith which is always busy has 1 member of staff which i bet you all could imagine how long the que was. Arrivals was quick and straight through to the baggage. Not many arriving flights but bags took still 35 minutes.

The whole departure experience was painful to see infront of my eyes.
Unfortunately it is a fact that the more successful an airport becomes, the worse the passenger experience gets particularly at peak times. BHX is not alone in this.
