BHX BOD

Theres a TOM 767 in the MAEL hangar and a Jet 2 757 on its apron.

The Norwegian 787 is on remote stand 85C and the RAF A330 86C.

Norwegian should go in the hangar tomorrow.

Happy days at BHX thanks to MAEL.

Nigel, happy days agreed but it's a shame that at present happy days news regarding BHX relies mostly on the empty arriving and departing aircraft visiting the MAEL facility!

SWBKCB - Yes the T3 service is far quicker and easier than the train to/from NCL but at the prices they charge so it should be! Frequency reduction and now a smaller aircraft indicates all is not well with the route. I once flew from NCL to BHX when Maersk operated it, but only because I was BA staff and travelled on a cheapo ID90 ticket......

I guess that viewpoint depends upon whether you're looking for interesting aircraft to photograph or record, or whether it's the real business of the airport which encompasses maintenance as well as cargo and passenger operations.

From the latter perspective in the last couple of weeks we've seen reported booming passenger numbers (though you can't read too much into one months statistics), route expansion from FlyBe, already announced, with allegedly more to follow; Biman - though granted it hasn't actually gone on sale, a fairly robust freight operation - considering the operational constraints, and of course the runway extension moving towards a finish sometime this spring.

OK, the old chestnuts about lack of Ryanair growth, lack of bucket and spade flights, lots of long haul development at another airport NW of BHX, and losing services like Air Blue could balance the equations, but overall I reckon BHX isn't doing too badly just now.

By the way - I don't work for the BHX PR department; and living as I do on the east side of the "midlands wall" I wish that EMA could offer half the range of services and frequency that BHX does!

re GWI

Trying out a new lens I took some photos at BHX last week. Looking at them more closely today I noted that the EWG CRJ-900 from HAM had additional GWI titles (nose section), whilst the DUS didn't. Doesn't mean anything of course, just an observation.

Actually well spotted and yes it does mean something - The current allocation and those operating for Germanwings are 6 frames from Hamburg and 2 at Stuttgart . They are dedicated frames and carry the Germanwings titles and soft product.

The remaining frames are currently at Dusseldorf operating for Lufthansa mainline - These will transfer to the GWI brand with the rest of the operation by beginning summer 2015.

More spin and a copy of a transcript over week old.

Note the comment re two used (battered) Egyptair 77Es - one has been deployed on pilgrimage charters for the last 6 months and the other stored.

Both of those will need some work before being deployed - Even more if they have to sub lease to a EU carrier because of the Cat 2 issue (Still not resolved).

Not exactly the fresh new 77W expected !

That is in the paint shop in the states right now and has a Bangladesh serial allocated however its certain this will be deployed to fortify the existing route after the Dc10 leaves in a few weeks - Not for this new service

As to the start date Kevin Steele better read is own lines is it 4th or 12th June - Or just a finger in the air more like!

2 battered old B777-200ERs which have been hammered and abused on Hajj pilgrimages and the like. One was being used as a donor at one point, I believe, for supporting the rest of the fleet.

United must be quaking in their boots at the possible competition out of Birmingham; oh, hold on whilst I put my mocking sarcasm away.

Approval from the Biman board? Another massive drain on the bottom line.

If it ever starts, I'll give it one season at best.

Birmingham deserves better.

Bangladesh deserves better, just more of the ineptitude that typifies the region.

Agree with you that if ever starts it will last but a season after which the lessors will be so fed up of never being paid on time they'll follow the Portuguese and concrete boot their asset .

Aaah but both Birmingham and Bangladesh already have better.
It's called Emirates.
Can't see a viable, economic future for the likes of Biman, PIA and other relic legacy carriers in the region. They are already in the process of getting swamped by the desert operators.

FlyBe

Interesting announcement today regarding expansion from BHX.
Going up against MON on a couple of routes but Cologne and Florence are of more interest.
Cologne is one of those routes that seems to be a bit up and down.We have seen a number of carriers operate it but has never really worked for one reason or other.
As for FLR this is a new route entirely for BHX so we don't know how it will do but I just hope the frequency is right.Seems a bit of a gamble to me.

On another subject a B762F belonging to Air Transport International(ATN)has just landed @BHX.Anyone have any info on this.Is it a 1 off charter??

FlyBe details

Probably should have included this in the original post so for those who may not have heard the new routes announced today are:-

Cologne=7 x weekly E175
Florence=6 x weekly E175
Toulouse=6 x weekly Dash8
Bordeaux=4 x weekly E175
Palma =4 x weekly E175
Alicante=5 x weekly E175
Oporto=3 x weekly E175.

Personally I would have preferred to see Prague or Lisbon as opposed to PMI and ALC.However it is nice to see an airline give BHX a chance with new routes or extra choice with current routes already served.
All routes are bookable from today,i just hope they are successful not just for Flybe and their staff but for BHX as a whole.GOOD LUCK!!!

In comparison with DUS, the BHX-CGN-BHX block timings of 1:45/1:55 seem excessively long for an E175?

Hotel Tango.
Don't know if you would remember but when Augsburg Airways operated to CGN their Dash used to spend a large chunk of the day sat idle at BHX.I'm only guessing but maybe it has something to do with slot restrictions at CGN.

Further to this news FlyBe are creating 50 new jobs at BHX plus adding 3 aircraft to the based fleet.
Obviously this has come at the expense of another airport which is bad news for them,but hopefully it will be a successful gamble for FlyBe and everyone concerned here @ BHX.
Time will tell.

A non-Expert's View

All new routes from BHX are to be welcomed but the New FlyBE routings, with the exeption of CGN and Toulouse seem to be Holiday related routes ex brum. From a broader ecomomic benefit, Prague amd Lisbon and Madrid would seem better choices.

Remember I do not have access to any commercial data of course - Mods if this is too "Spotty" remove the entry.

[Edit: Are they Summer only routes ?]
